Description
The Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown is the RMR Type 2 in the configuration United States Special Operations Command selected for its Handgun Reflex Sight contract: a 3.25 MOA adjustable LED dot in a coyote brown housing. Part RM06-C-700780.

What The HRS Contract Actually Means
USSOCOM did not pick a pistol optic from a catalogue. The Handgun Reflex Sight programme put candidates through extensive testing and evaluation, and the RMR Type 2 came out of it as the sight judged reliable enough to go on the sidearms of people whose lives depend on it.
That matters to a civilian buyer for one reason: the testing was about durability and the electronics surviving slide mounted use, not about features. The Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown is the same optic that passed, in the same finish it was contracted in.
Why Slide Mounting Is The Hard Part
A rifle optic gets pushed rearward once per shot. A slide mounted pistol optic gets slammed forward and back through a full cycle in milliseconds, repeatedly, with the electronics riding along. That environment killed a generation of miniature reflex sights.
The Type 2 revision exists specifically to solve it. Trijicon redesigned the internal electronics after the original RMR showed failures on slide ride pistols, and the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown carries that revision along with the patented housing shape that routes impact around the lens rather than through it.
Adjustable LED, Not Automatic Only
Buttons on the sides of the housing let you set brightness by hand, toggle between manual and automatic modes, and power the optic down for storage. Left alone it behaves like the automatic version, reading ambient light and setting itself.
Choose a manual setting and the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown holds it for sixteen and a half hours before reverting to automatic on its own. That timeout is deliberate: a manual setting that never expires is how you end up with a dot too dim for daylight, discovered at the worst possible moment.

Why 3.25 MOA
A three and a quarter minute dot covers about eight tenths of an inch at twenty five yards and roughly three and a quarter inches at a hundred. Large enough to find instantly on a draw, small enough not to swallow a target at distance.
It is the size most duty and carry shooters settle on, and it is the size the contract specified. If you want tighter or bolder, Trijicon builds the RMR with dots from one minute to nine, but the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown represents the considered middle.
Why Shooters Choose The Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown
- The configuration selected under the USSOCOM Handgun Reflex Sight contract
- Type 2 electronics built to survive slide mounted use
- Patented housing shape that diverts impact away from the lens
- Button control with an automatic mode to fall back on
- Over four years of battery life at a middle brightness setting
- Coyote brown to match tan, FDE and coyote builds
The Coyote Brown Finish
Optically and mechanically this is identical to the matte black RMR Type 2. The finish is the contract colour, and it matches tan, FDE and coyote furniture, which covers a great many modern pistols and rifles.
If your gun is black, buy the black version and save the mismatch. If it is not, the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown finishes the build properly at no cost in performance, and it has the side benefit of looking like what it is rather than an afterthought bolted to the slide.
Battery Life And Changing The Cell
Trijicon rates the CR2032 at over four years of continuous use at setting four of eight, measured at seventy degrees Fahrenheit. Extreme heat or cold shortens that meaningfully, so treat it as a guide rather than a promise through a Pennsylvania winter.
The battery sits underneath, which means dismounting the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown to change it and confirming zero afterwards. Change the cell on a date you will remember each year rather than waiting for it to die, given how little a battery costs against the inconvenience.
Mounting And What Is Not In The Box
No mount is included. On a pistol with a factory optics cut you need the correct RMR pattern plate for your slide. On an uncut pistol the slide must be milled or you fit a mount that replaces the rear sight. On a rifle or shotgun you need a picatinny mount at the height you want.
The RMR footprint is the closest thing the pistol optic world has to a standard, so hardware you already own very likely fits. Tell us what you are fitting the Trijicon RMR HRS Type 2 Coyote Brown to and we will confirm the right plate or mount before it ships.
