Description

The Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 set is the standard Bright and Tough three dot configuration, catalogued by Trijicon as GL13-C-600777 with a white outline and green tritium lamp front and rear. It is the sight set most Glock slimline owners end up buying, and the reasoning is not complicated: it works in the dark without a battery, and it survives being carried every day for years.

Why the Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 Set Holds Up

Tritium sights are self-luminous. A sealed glass lamp filled with tritium gas glows on its own, with no charging, no switch and no cell to replace. Trijicon caps each lamp with a sapphire jewel that spreads the light evenly across the dot and shields the glass from solvents and punctures, then seats the assembly in an aluminium cylinder resting on a silicone cushion. That cushion is the part people overlook. It is what lets these green tritium three dot sights take slide cycling on a subcompact for a decade without the lamps going dark.

Up front you get a white outline ring around the tritium. In daylight the ring is what your eye actually picks up, which keeps the sight usable at noon rather than only after dusk. At night the ring disappears and the three green dots line up. The Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 set uses the classic configuration, and it is deliberately conservative. Trijicon has been shipping Bright and Tough night sights in this pattern since the 1980s and has not felt the need to change much.

Fitment covers more pistols than the product name suggests. The Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 set drops onto the Glock 42, the 43, the 43X, the 43E and the 48, which means one part number covers the whole slimline family including Glock 43X and 48 owners who bought later. It does not fit the double stack frames; those take a different Trijicon part number.

Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 Specifications

Trijicon quotes a five times improvement in night fire accuracy over plain black sights, measured against conventional iron sights with no illumination at all. Treat that as a directional claim rather than a promise, but the practical difference is real: in a dark room the front dot is visible and a plain black front post is not. Both sights in the Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 set are standard height, not suppressor height, so they will not co-witness over a slide mounted red dot on an optics ready 43X or 48.

Honest Notes Before You Buy the Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 Set

Tritium is a consumable. It has a half life of about twelve years, so a set installed today will be visibly dimmer at the ten year mark and noticeably faint past fifteen. Trijicon warrants the lamps for twelve years, which is a fair reflection of the physics rather than a marketing number. If you are buying a used pistol with night sights already fitted, check the date code before assuming they are still doing anything.

The three dot green on green layout is the traditional one, and it is not the fastest. Sets that use a different colour or a bright orange or yellow ring on the front sight only give your eye something to lock onto immediately, which shaves time off the first shot. Green front and green rear means you have to read the alignment rather than snap to it. Plenty of very good shooters prefer this set anyway, but it is worth knowing the trade before you order.

Installation is not a kitchen table job on a slimline Glock. The rear sight needs a sight pusher or a proper drift punch and a vice, and the front sight on a 42 or 43 uses a very small hex nut that is easy to cross thread. Most buyers of the Trijicon Night Sights Glock 42 43 48 set are better off paying a gunsmith twenty or thirty dollars than buying a tool they will use once.

Also check your holster: these sit at factory height, so retention should be unchanged, but a tight kydex sight channel can still catch a fresh white outline ring.
