Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA

A Tube Sight, Not A Pistol Optic

The MRO is a different animal from an RMR or an SRO. Those are open reflex sights designed to sit on a pistol slide. This is a sealed tube with a lens at each end, built for a carbine, a rifle or a shotgun, and it is far better suited to that job than a miniature reflex would be.

The tube design is what lets the Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA use a wide bodied lens and still stay compact. You look through a viewing area considerably larger than the outside of the optic suggests, which is the single thing people notice first when they put one on a rifle.

What A 2 MOA Dot Means On A Rifle

Two minutes of angle covers about half an inch at twenty five yards and two inches at a hundred. On a carbine that is the useful middle: small enough to shoot precisely at a hundred yards and beyond, large enough to find instantly at close range.

Compare that with the four and six minute dots common on competing tube sights. Those are faster up close and start hiding the target past a hundred yards. The Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA is sized for a rifle that is expected to do both, which is what most carbines are actually asked to do.

Half Minute Clicks Are Finer Than Most

Adjustment is half a minute of angle per click. A great many red dots move a full minute or more per click, which is coarse enough that zeroing becomes a matter of bracketing rather than dialling.

Half minute clicks let you actually centre a group. Shoot at a hundred yards, measure the offset in inches, double it, and that is your click count. That precision is worth having on the Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA precisely because the 2 MOA dot is fine enough to make use of it.

Sealed Tube Versus Open Emitter

An open reflex sight projects its dot from a small exposed well onto the back of a lens. Rain, snow, mud or holster lint settling in that well dims or kills the dot until you wipe it. A tube sight has glass at both ends and no exposed emitter at all.

On a rifle that lives outdoors, in a truck, or in weather, that matters. The Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA has nothing on the outside for the world to block, which is one of the reasons tube sights remain the default on duty and hunting carbines despite being larger than a miniature reflex.

Why Shooters Choose The Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA

  • 2 MOA dot, precise enough past 100 yards and fast enough up close
  • Half minute clicks for a zero you can actually centre
  • Wide bodied lens giving a large viewing area for the size of the optic
  • Sealed tube construction rather than an exposed emitter
  • Eight brightness settings to suit the light you are in

Brightness And Both Eyes Open

Eight settings give you room to match the light rather than tolerate it. Run it dim indoors and at dusk, where an over bright dot blooms and hides what is behind it. Run it up in daylight and against snow or sand where the background is competing with the dot.

A 1x sight is meant to be shot with both eyes open. Your non aiming eye keeps the wider scene and the dot floats onto the target, which is what makes the Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA quick on a moving target or across several targets in sequence.

Mounting

Mount height is the decision that matters most on a rifle. Absolute co witness puts the dot in line with your iron sights. Lower third puts it slightly above them, which most shooters find gives a cleaner view with the irons tucked out of the way but still available.

Trijicon offers mounts at both heights for the MRO line. Tell us what rifle you are fitting the Trijicon MRO SD Red Dot 2 MOA to and what sights it already wears, and we will make sure the right mount goes in the box rather than leaving you to find out afterwards.

Who It Is For

Carbine and patrol rifle users, three gun competitors, hog and predator hunters running a semi automatic, and anyone building a shotgun for slugs or turkey. It is the wrong choice for a pistol slide, where an RMR or an RCR is the right answer.
