Description
The chevron is the reticle people argue about and then buy. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron is Trijicon TA02-D-100393, a battery illuminated 4×32 ACOG with a red chevron bullet drop reticle for 5.56 and .223. Unlike the fibre and tritium models, this one runs on a single AA cell and gives you six brightness settings you control by hand.
Why the Chevron Works on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron
A chevron is a triangle with the point at the top. The tip is your precise aiming reference, fine enough to hold a small target at three hundred yards, and the widening body below it is what your eye catches at speed up close. That combination is why the chevron has a following among people who want one reticle to do close work and distance work without compromising either. A dot is faster but less precise; a crosshair is more precise but slower to find. The chevron sits deliberately between them.
Below the tip sits the usual stack of holdover marks, calibrated for 55 grain ammunition from a 20 inch barrel out to six hundred yards. The red chevron BDC reticle is etched into the glass rather than projected, which is the detail that matters most about an LED ACOG. If the battery dies you still have a black chevron and black stadia in perfect focus. A red dot with a dead cell leaves you with an empty tube; this leaves you with iron sight equivalence.
Battery illumination is a genuine feature rather than a compromise. Six settings plus off positions between them let you run the chevron bright in desert sun and dim in a dark indoor bay, which the automatic fibre optic models cannot do. Trijicon rates the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron at over twelve thousand hours on setting four with the supplied alkaline cell, so a battery change is an annual event rather than a weekly worry.
Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron Specifications
Adjustments run two clicks per inch at 100 yards, which is half MOA in practical terms and finer than the three clicks per inch on the 3.5x models. Eye relief is 1.5 inches, exit pupil 0.32 inches, and field of view is 36.8 feet at 100 yards across seven degrees. The housing is forged aluminium in matte black and the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron ships with the TA51 flat top thumbscrew mount in the box.
Red was chosen deliberately for this configuration. A red aiming point preserves more of your dark adaptation than green does, which matters if you are shooting at night and want to keep your eyes working between shots. Green reads brighter to the human eye at equal output and wins in daylight; red is the low light choice. Neither is wrong, and Trijicon offers the same scope both ways.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron
Eye relief of 1.5 inches is the first hurdle and it catches everybody. The eye box is tight, and anyone arriving from a low power variable will spend a session hunting for the sight picture before it clicks. What you get back is repeatability rather than forgiveness: find the right mount position on your rail, build a consistent cheek weld, and the picture is identical every time. Budget range time for that rather than expecting it to work perfectly the first afternoon.
Weight is the second honest point. An ACOG with the mount fitted is a little over a pound, which is three times what a micro red dot weighs and noticeable on a lightweight carbine. A modern one to six power variable gives you a true 1x and more reach for comparable money. What neither of those gives you is a sealed prism with two decades of hard service behind it and an etched reticle that still works with a flat battery.
The chevron also divides people. Some shooters find the point of the triangle disappears against a busy background where a horseshoe would still be obvious. If you have never looked through one, it is worth handling before committing, because reticle preference is genuinely personal and there is no reticle that suits everyone.
One last practical note on mounting. The TA51 is a thumbscrew flat top adapter rather than a quick detach lever, so if you swap optics between rifles regularly, budget for an aftermarket lever mount. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 LED Red Chevron also sits fairly low on a flat top receiver, and on a stock with a tall comb you may want a riser to get your eye behind it without craning your neck.
