Description
This is the 6.8 SPC version, and the cartridge is the whole point of it. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC is Trijicon TA31H-68-G: a 4×32 prism with a green horseshoe dot reticle whose holdovers are drawn for 6.8 Remington SPC rather than for 5.56. It takes no batteries, running on fibre optics by day and tritium by night.
A Reticle Drawn for One Cartridge
6.8 SPC sits between 5.56 and .308 in a way that matters for a bullet drop reticle. A 115 grain 6.8 leaves a 16 inch barrel around 2,500 feet per second, heavier and slower than a 55 grain 5.56 and considerably lighter and faster than a 168 grain .308. Its trajectory matches neither, so a reticle calibrated for either of those will put your holdovers in the wrong place from about two hundred yards outward. Trijicon draws a separate 6.8 SPC BDC reticle instead of expecting you to compensate.
The horseshoe dot is the fast end of the reticle range. A glowing open ring with a dot in the centre gives your eye a large, unmistakable shape to catch up close, and the centre dot is what you use for precision further out. That pairs well with 6.8 SPC, which most people run on a general purpose carbine rather than a long range rifle.
Illumination on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC is the classic Trijicon dual illuminated reticle arrangement. A fibre optic ribbon along the top of the housing collects ambient light and feeds the reticle, scaling brightness automatically with conditions, and a sealed tritium lamp keeps it visible once the light has gone. There is no battery compartment, no switch and nothing to check before you head out.
Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC Specifications
Underneath the reticle this is the standard TA31 body. Fixed 4x over a 32mm objective, 1.5 inches of eye relief, a 0.32 inch exit pupil, 36.8 feet of field of view at 100 yards across seven degrees. The housing is forged aluminium finished in matte black and rated to 66 feet of submersion, and the TA51 flat top thumbscrew mount comes in the box.
The Bindon Aiming Concept applies here as it does across the ACOG line. Shoot with both eyes open and your brain blends the magnified image from the scope eye with the unmagnified field from the other, so the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC behaves far more like a variable than a fixed 4x has any right to when you are tracking something moving.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC
Only buy this if your rifle is actually chambered in 6.8 SPC. That sounds obvious, but these turn up second hand and get fitted to 5.56 carbines because the body is identical to the far more common .223 models. The glass and the prism are the same; the holdover marks are not, and using the wrong ones will cost you badly past two hundred yards. Check the reticle before you buy any used ACOG.
6.8 SPC itself deserves honesty. It is a good cartridge that never won the market, so ammunition costs meaningfully more than 5.56 and shelf availability is patchy outside of online ordering. Factory loads vary in bullet weight more than 5.56 does, which matters here because the reticle is drawn for one specific load. Confirm the stadia on paper with the ammunition you actually shoot rather than trusting the printed ranges.
Eye relief is 1.5 inches, which is short, and the eye box is unforgiving. Anyone coming from a low power variable will spend a session finding the sight picture before it becomes automatic. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 Green Horseshoe BAC rewards a consistent cheek weld and punishes a lazy one, and where the mount sits on the rail matters more than on almost any other optic you will fit.
Two last practical points. Reticle brightness is automatic and cannot be dialled by hand, so in a dark room looking out at bright daylight the horseshoe can read dimmer than you would like. And the tritium is a consumable, losing roughly half its brightness every twelve years, which is why Trijicon warrants the lamps for twelve years rather than for life.
