Description
The Tokarev TTS 12 Semi-Auto 12ga is a simple, inexpensive semi-automatic 12 gauge from Tokarev USA with an 18.5-inch barrel, a 3-inch chamber and a black synthetic stock. It is the plain-sighted member of Tokarev’s TT family (factory model 21000427).
Tokarev TTS 12 Semi-Auto 12ga Overview
Lipsey’s lists the TTS with a 4+1 capacity, a raised front sight, a full choke, a 38-inch overall length and a weight of about 6 pounds 1 ounce. The receiver is a flat top with a dovetail, so you can mount a low red dot or a rail adapter. There are no ghost ring sights or tactical extras here, which keeps the price down and leaves the shotgun clean and light for carrying in a truck, around a barn or as a starter home defense gun.
A Light Semi-Auto
At just over six pounds, the TTS is lighter than many pump guns. That makes it quick to carry and point, but it also means recoil is noticeable with heavy buckshot and slugs. A semi-auto action soaks up some of the kick by spreading it over a longer time, and follow-up shots come faster than with a pump because you only press the trigger. If recoil is a concern, try 2-3/4 inch low-recoil buckshot, but confirm it cycles reliably first.
Break-In and Reliability
Budget semi-auto shotguns usually need a break-in period. Shoot two or three boxes of standard field or target loads before you decide whether the gun is reliable, and clean the action afterwards. Very light target loads can fail to cycle, especially early on. Once the action has smoothed out, pick the defensive load that runs every time and stick with it.
About the Full Choke
Lipsey’s lists the choke as full. A full choke keeps patterns tight, which helps with slugs and longer shots but can make buckshot patterns too small at close range. Pattern your load at typical indoor distances. If the gun accepts interchangeable tubes on your example, a cylinder or improved cylinder tube gives a wider spread for home defense; otherwise, choose a buckshot load known to pattern well from tight chokes.
Adding an Optic
The dovetail flat top is the TTS’s main upgrade path. A small red dot on a dovetail mount lets you aim faster than with a bead, especially with slugs. Keep the setup simple: a heavy optic and a big light on a gun this light can make it front heavy. A sling is worth adding for anyone who will carry it outdoors.
Where It Fits
This is a value gun, and it is honest to say so. Fit and finish will not match a Beretta or Benelli, and parts support is limited compared with American brands. What you get is a light, tube-fed semi-auto at a price close to a basic pump. For a ranch truck gun, a backup shotgun or a first semi-auto, that can be a smart trade.
State Laws and Ownership
Semi-automatic shotguns with conventional stocks are legal in most states. Some states limit shotgun magazine capacity or restrict certain features, and hunting rules often require a plug that limits capacity to three shells. Check your local laws before ordering.

Federal law requires that shotguns be transferred through a licensed dealer to a buyer who is at least 18 years old and passes a background check. Break the gun in with standard loads before choosing a defensive shell, and pattern it at the distances you expect to use it.
