Description
The Tokarev TSP 12 Pump Action 12ga is a budget-friendly home and truck shotgun from Tokarev USA, imported from Turkey. It pairs an 18.5-inch barrel and a 3-inch chamber with a black synthetic stock, and it ships with a second, pistol grip style stock in the box (factory model 21000430).
Tokarev TSP 12 Pump Action 12ga Overview
The TSP 12 is the pump-action member of Tokarev’s TS series. Lipsey’s lists it with an 18.5-inch barrel, a 38-inch overall length and an unloaded weight of about 6 pounds 1 ounce, which is light for a 12 gauge defensive gun. Capacity is 4+1 with 3-inch shells. The sights are a fiber optic front bead and a ghost ring rear, and the receiver is drilled and tapped so you can add a rail and a red dot. The barrel accepts Benelli Mobil pattern choke tubes, a common and inexpensive thread pattern.
Why a Pump for Defense
A pump gun does not care whether you feed it light target loads, buckshot or slugs; you cycle the action by hand, so low-recoil shells that might short-stroke a semi-auto still run. That makes the TSP 12 forgiving for new owners and for households where more than one person may need to use it. The tradeoff is that you must work the forend firmly every time. Practice that motion until it is automatic, because a half stroke under stress is the most common way pump guns stop.
Two Stocks in One Box
Tokarev includes both a conventional synthetic stock and a pistol grip style stock. The standard stock is easier for most shooters to mount quickly and point naturally. The pistol grip version gives a more vertical wrist angle, which some people prefer when moving through a house or shooting from a vehicle. Either way, the length of pull is fixed, so smaller shooters may want to try the gun before committing.
Sights, Chokes and Patterning
The fiber optic front and ghost ring rear are a real step up from a lone bead, especially with slugs. The Benelli Mobil thread means you can buy improved cylinder, modified or full tubes cheaply. Pattern your chosen buckshot load at 7, 15 and 25 yards before you rely on the gun. Inexpensive imported shotguns can be fussy about which loads pattern well, and the only way to know is to shoot paper.
Fit, Finish and Value
This is a value-priced import, and it is honest to say so. Expect a stiffer action out of the box and some rough edges that smooth out after a few boxes of shells. Run a couple hundred rounds through it before trusting it for defense. Parts and accessory support is thinner than for a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, so holsters for side saddles and aftermarket forends are limited. For the price, though, you get useful sights, a light gun and two stocks.
Care and Maintenance
Keep the action lightly oiled and wipe the chamber after shooting cheap, dirty target shells. Check that the choke tube is snug before every range trip; a loose tube can be damaged by shot. If the gun will sit in a truck or by the bed for long periods, unload it, store shells separately when children are present, and inspect the tube magazine spring once a year.
State Laws and Ownership
Pump shotguns with an 18.5-inch barrel are legal in most states, but some places restrict pistol grip stocks, magazine tube capacity or certain features on shotguns. Confirm the configuration you plan to use is legal where you live, and remember that hunting regulations often require a plugged magazine.

Before You Buy
Federal law requires that shotguns be transferred through a licensed dealer to a buyer who is at least 18 years old and passes a background check. Pattern your defensive load before relying on the gun, and use only 2-3/4 or 3 inch 12 gauge shells.
