Description
The Tisas Tank Commander 9mm Parkerized is a 4.25-inch 1911A1 styled after the shortened pistols carried by armored crews, with a parkerized steel finish, round hammer and A1 service controls. It holds 9+1 rounds of 9mm Luger.
Tisas Tank Commander 9mm Parkerized Overview
Tisas builds the 1911A1 Tank Commander (factory model 10100116) with a forged steel frame and slide, Series 70 internals, GI-style fixed sights and an A1 service thumb safety. Overall length is 7.92 inches and weight is about 2.27 lb. Tisas includes black plastic grips installed plus a spare set of brown plastic grips, so you can choose a modern or wartime look. Our store also lists a nickel Tank Commander 9mm; this listing is the parkerized version.
Military Heritage in 9mm
The parkerized finish, lanyard-free mainspring housing and small GI sights echo the issue 1911A1, while the commander-length slide makes it handier. Chambering it in 9mm brings the classic look to an affordable, low-recoil cartridge that newer shooters can enjoy. It is a great way to own the feel of a wartime pistol without paying collector prices for an original.
Parkerized Finish
Parkerizing is a phosphate finish that holds oil and resists corrosion well while giving a matte, non-reflective look. It will show holster wear over time, which many owners consider part of the charm. Keep a light coat of oil on the gun and avoid leaving it in a damp holster.
Basic Sights and Controls
The GI-style sights are small and harder to see quickly than modern three-dot or night sights. The A1 thumb safety is short and not extended, which is authentic but less convenient for carry. These are deliberate choices for a retro-style pistol; if you want modern controls, Tisas’ Carry and Duty lines are better choices.
Round Hammer and Series 70
The round spur hammer looks period-correct and is less prone to snagging than a long spur. Series 70 internals give a clean trigger without a firing pin block, so the thumb safety and grip safety are your mechanical protections. Expect a short break-in period with quality ball ammunition.
Practical Ownership
Tisas has become a go-to name for affordable, forged-steel GI-style 1911s. Resale is lower than for American brands, but any standard commander 1911 holster fits, and the plastic grips can be swapped for wood if you want a dressier look. For range fun, a first 1911 or a reenactment-style collection, it is a well-priced option.
State Laws and Ownership
Handgun rosters in a few states restrict models by exact configuration, so check whether this pistol can be sold in your area. The 9-round magazines meet nearly every capacity limit. Check your state and local rules before ordering.

Federal law requires that handguns be transferred through a licensed dealer to a buyer who is at least 21 years old and passes a background check. Remember the small GI sights and short safety are authentic but less suited to fast defensive shooting than modern controls.
