Description
The Taylors Smoke Wagon 45 Colt Revolver (Taylor’s and Company 550813) is the 45 Colt version of the Uberti-built Smoke Wagon. It has a 5.5 inch round blued barrel, a forged case hardened frame, a blued half-fluted six-shot cylinder, a low hammer and a slim checkered walnut grip.

Taylors Smoke Wagon 45 Colt Revolver Overview
Taylor’s built the Smoke Wagon around the classic 1873 Single Action Army but changed the parts that matter most to working shooters. The hammer spur sits lower, so it is easier to reach without shifting your grip, and the Navy-size grip is thinned for quick handling. Taylor’s lists a 1-in-16 right-hand twist, a fixed blade front with a frame notch rear, an overall length of 11.1 inches and a weight of about 2.5 pounds. The retractable firing pin rides on the hammer.
The 45 Colt Cartridge
45 Colt, often called 45 Long Colt, is the cartridge the Single Action Army made famous in 1873. Standard loads push a 250 grain lead bullet at modest speed, with a firm, rolling recoil that is easier to manage than its reputation. It works well for cowboy action, steel targets and woods use at short range.

Standard Pressure Loads Only
Do not fire +P or so-called Ruger-only 45 Colt loads in this revolver. Those hot hunting loads are made for large-frame guns with stronger cylinders, and they can damage a Colt-pattern single action or injure the shooter. Buy standard pressure or cowboy action ammunition and read the box before you load.
Why Shooters Pick the Smoke Wagon
The thin grip and low hammer make fast single action shooting more comfortable, which is why the Smoke Wagon became popular in cowboy action matches. The 5.5 inch barrel adds a little weight at the muzzle that steadies the gun between shots. Taylor’s also offers its own tuning service for a lighter, smoother action.

Loading and Safe Carry
Open the loading gate, set the hammer at the loading position if your model has one, and load one chamber at a time. Traditional single action practice is to carry five rounds with the hammer down on an empty chamber unless the manual states otherwise. Learn the sequence at home with snap caps before you head to the range.
Ammo Cost and Care
45 Colt is not as cheap or as common as 9mm or 38 Special, and cowboy loads sell out before match season. Many owners reload with lead bullets to cut cost. Wipe down the case colored frame with light oil after shooting, and keep solvents away from the walnut grip.
State Laws and Ownership
Pennsylvania has no handgun roster and no capacity limits that affect a six-shot revolver. Some states and cities add permit-to-purchase, registration or waiting-period requirements, and California requires the model to appear on its handgun roster. Check your local rules and confirm the transfer with your receiving FFL before ordering.
