Description
The Taurus TH40 Grey is the full-size .40 in the hammer-fired TH line, with a grey polymer frame under a black slide and, unusually for this price bracket, adjustable sights. Fifteen rounds, a 4.3-inch barrel, two magazines in the box.
The Taurus TH40 Grey runs double action for the first shot and single action after that, with an ambidextrous manual safety that also drops the hammer. It is a duty-pattern pistol at an entry-level price, in a colour that is not simply another black gun.
What you get with the Taurus TH40 Grey
- 15+1 capacity in .40 S&W from a full-size frame, with two magazines supplied
- Adjustable sights, which is genuinely rare at this price and lets you zero for a chosen load
- Grey polymer frame with the colour moulded through rather than sprayed on, under a black slide
- Hammer fired with a double-action first shot and single-action follow-ups
- Ambidextrous manual safety that also functions as a decocker
- 4.3-inch barrel and a Picatinny rail under the dust cover
- Enough mass in the frame and slide to keep .40 recoil civil

Two things worth knowing
- Adjustable sights on the Taurus TH40 Grey matter more than on a 9mm, because bullet weights in .40 vary widely and so does where they print
- Set the sights for the load you will actually shoot most, then leave them alone
- .40 S&W recoil is a quick snap rather than a push, and it will move a lazy grip. Grip pressure fixes it, not trigger technique
- The Taurus TH40 Grey is mechanically identical to the black version, so holsters and magazines interchange
- This configuration is no longer in the current distributor catalogues, so what is on the shelf is what remains
- If you have never shot .40, try someone else’s before you commit. Some people take to it and some do not

.40 S&W is a standardised cartridge with chamber dimensions and pressure ceilings published by SAAMI. It runs at higher pressure than 9mm in a wider case, which is why .40 pistols are built on the same frames as 10mm guns rather than scaled up from 9mm ones.
One practical advantage of buying .40 right now. The police departments that created the demand have almost all moved back to 9mm, so ammunition, magazines and holsters for .40 are widely available and often discounted. A Taurus TH40 Grey is cheap to buy and cheap to feed, which is a combination that does not come around often.
Why this pistol earns its place
- Adjustable sights on a budget duty pistol, which almost nobody else offers
- Two magazines in the box rather than one
- A real decocker and a hammer you can see
- The Taurus TH40 Grey has moulded-through colour, so it wears rather than chips
- Fifteen rounds of .40 and a rail for a light
- Cheap, plentiful ammunition while the rest of the market chases 9mm
Shooters who prefer hammer-fired pistols, anyone who already owns .40 magazines or ammunition, and buyers who want adjustable sights without paying for a target pistol. The Taurus TH40 Grey is a house and range gun rather than a carry piece.
If you want the same gun in black, the full-size black TH40 is the standard build, and the TH40 Compact is the carry version.
In 9mm, the Taurus TH9 is the same pistol with two more rounds and less recoil. For considerably more power, the TH10 in 10mm Auto is the same platform again. For a striker-fired alternative, the grey-framed G3 is cheaper still.
Every Taurus TH40 ships with the factory case, both magazines, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
