Description
The Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated takes the GX4 Carry that a lot of people already shoot well and cuts ports into the front of the barrel. The barrel runs long enough to poke past the slide, and the gas bled off through those ports pushes the muzzle down instead of letting it climb. On a 9mm this size, that is a real difference between the first shot and the second, not a marketing line.
Everything else on the Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated is the familiar GX4 Carry package: 15+1 in a grip most people can still conceal, an optic-ready slide cut for the Holosun K footprint, a short Picatinny rail under the dust cover for a light, and interchangeable backstraps.
Part number 1-GX4CRP931-RP, UPC 725327944362, four in stock.
What the Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated brings over the standard Carry
- Satin black DLC compensated barrel, 3.70 inches, with the comp protruding past the muzzle end of the slide
- Gas nitride finished alloy steel slide, serrated front and rear, cut for a Holosun K footprint optic
- Matte black stainless steel frame with an integral Picatinny rail section
- 15+1 capacity in 9mm Luger
- Interchangeable backstraps so the grip circumference can be tuned to the hand
- Flat-faced trigger with a blade safety

What a compensator does, and what it costs you
- The comp on the Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated redirects propellant gas upward at the muzzle, which pushes the front of the gun down and shortens the time it takes to bring the sights back on target
- The effect is most useful under recoil-heavy strings – a pair or a controlled string of five, not a single deliberate shot
- It is louder from behind the gun than an unported barrel of the same length, and noticeably so indoors
- It throws gas and unburnt powder upward. Shooting from a close retention position, be aware of where that is going
- Holsters need a cut for the comp. A standard GX4 Carry holster will not necessarily take this pistol – check before you buy one
- Some carry ammunition with heavy crimps or lots of unburnt powder will foul the ports faster than others

Optic fitment – check the footprint before ordering
The Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated slide is cut for the Holosun K footprint, which is the pattern used by the 407K, 507K and 507K X2 among others. It is not the same as the RMSc pattern or the standard RMR pattern, and adapter plates for micro slides are a compromise at best because they raise the optic and eat into the sight window. If you already own a red dot, confirm its footprint against the K pattern before you order. The cover plate is on the gun as shipped, so it works fine with irons alone.
Chamber and pressure standards for 9mm Luger are published by SAAMI. Everything in the case should be loaded to them.
Where it sits in the GX4 line
If you do not want the comp, the plain GX4 Carry TORO is the same pistol without the ports and is easier to holster. The GX4 XL gives you the same 3.7-inch barrel length on the longer-slide frame, and the original GX4 micro-compact is the smaller, 11+1 version if concealment matters more than capacity. For a lower-recoil option on the same frame, there is the GX4 Carry in .380 ACP.
Why the Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated earns its place
- A comp on a gun this size does more good than it does on a full-size, because there is less mass to resist the muzzle rise in the first place
- 15+1 and a 3.7-inch barrel in a frame that still conceals under a shirt
- Optic ready and rail equipped out of the box, so nothing needs milling
- Four in stock, and compensated factory versions of the GX4 do not sit on shelves long
The honest caveat is the noise. Porting a short barrel makes an already loud pistol louder, and if this is a nightstand gun that might get fired indoors without ear protection, that is worth weighing against the flatter recoil. Plenty of people decide the trade is worth it. Some do not.
The second thing to plan for is the holster. The Taurus GX4 Carry Compensated will not drop into every GX4 Carry holster on the market, because the comp adds length and width at the muzzle. Buy the holster knowing the gun is compensated, or buy one with an open muzzle end.
Beyond that, this is the GX4 Carry that most people should have started with. It shoots flatter than the standard gun, carries the same, and holds the same fifteen rounds. MAG5 Firearms ships to your FFL – have your dealer email their licence, or use a dealer we already have on file.
