Description
The Taurus 856 Stainless 2 Inch is a revolver chambered in 38 Special with a 2-inch barrel.
Taurus 856 Stainless 2 Inch Overview
38 Special revolver that holds six rounds instead of the usual five, giving you one more shot in a package that is barely larger than a traditional snub-nose. It is rated for +P ammunition. Revolvers remain popular because they are simple to operate and very forgiving. There is no slide to rack and no magazine to seat, and a misfire is cleared by simply pulling the trigger again. The trade-off is capacity and reload speed, so a few speedloaders or moon clips are worth adding.
Practice the double action trigger pull regularly, because a smooth, steady press is the key to accuracy with any wheelgun.
Design and Features
The 856 has a two-inch barrel, a serrated ramp front sight and a fixed rear sight, and its rubber grip fills the hand and absorbs recoil. Many versions are available in black, stainless or two-tone finishes with colored grips.
Handling and Carry
The 856 is a favorite concealed carry and home defense revolver for shooters who want the simplicity of a wheelgun with extra capacity.
Trigger and Controls
The transfer bar safety keeps the hammer off the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled all the way through, and the Taurus Security System lets you lock the action with a key at the rear of the hammer.
Sights and Optics
The factory sights give a clear, quick sight picture, and an optic-ready slide (where fitted) lets you add a red dot whenever you are ready.
The 38 Special Cartridge
The 38 Special offers a good balance of power, accuracy, and recoil for its intended use.
Setup and Accessories
Pick a holster made for your revolver’s frame size and barrel length, and add speedloaders or speed strips so you can reload quickly.
Ownership Tips
Read the owner’s manual fully before your first range trip, and keep the manual, box, and receipt with your records for warranty service and resale. Unload the revolver and confirm it is empty before cleaning. Field-strip it according to the owner’s manual, scrub the bore with a brush and patches, and wipe carbon from the breech face and slide rails. Apply a light coat of quality gun oil to the contact points, and wipe the exterior with a lightly oiled cloth before storage.
