Description

The Tanfoglio Pugio 1911 9mm Polymer (TF-PUGIO-9) puts an Officer-length steel slide and a 3.54 inch stainless bull barrel on a full-size polymer grip frame with an integral Picatinny rail. It holds 10+1 rounds of 9mm and uses Series 70 style internals. This listing is the standard-sight model, not the optic-ready version.

Tanfoglio Pugio 1911 9mm Polymer Overview

Pugio is the Latin name for the short Roman dagger, and Tanfoglio aimed this pistol at carry and duty use rather than competition. The polymer frame cuts weight compared with a steel 1911, while the full-length grip gives room for all three fingers and a 10-round single-stack magazine. A bobbed hammer and beavertail reduce snagging and hammer bite. The serrated slide is black steel, and the sights are a Novak-style low profile set.

1911 Trigger, Modern Frame

Single action only means the hammer must be cocked for the first shot, and the pistol is carried with the thumb safety engaged. Series 70 internals have no firing pin block, so the trigger feels like a traditional 1911. That is excellent for accuracy, but it demands a quality holster that covers the trigger and a firm habit of using the safety.

Why a Bull Barrel

A bull barrel removes the barrel bushing and locks up directly in the slide, a common approach on short 1911s. It improves consistency with a short slide and makes field stripping a little different from a full-size 1911, so read the manual before your first cleaning.

Rail and Grip

The full-length Picatinny rail is unusual on a compact 1911 and makes it easy to add a weapon light. The longer grip helps control, but the grip length is what usually prints under a shirt, so choose a holster and belt that tuck the butt in.

Magazines and Reliability

Short-slide 1911s are known to be more sensitive to magazines and ammunition than full-size guns. Shoot at least a few hundred rounds of your carry ammo before trusting it, and test every magazine you own. Spare Pugio magazines are less common than Glock magazines, so order a couple with the gun.

Who Should Look Elsewhere

If you want an optic, IFG sells an optic-ready Pugio under a separate UPC. If you dislike manual safeties or single-action carry, a striker pistol will suit you better. If you love the 1911 manual of arms and want less weight, this is a well-thought-out option.

State Laws and Ownership

Pennsylvania has no magazine capacity limit and no handgun roster, but the sale still runs through a licensed dealer with a background check. A 10-round magazine is legal in every state, but roster states such as California and Massachusetts may still block this model. Several states, including California, Massachusetts and Maryland, keep handgun rosters, and imported Tanfoglio models are rarely on them. Check your state and local rules, and confirm with your receiving FFL that it can transfer this pistol, before you order.
