Description
The Stevens 334 243 Winchester Walnut is a bolt-action 243 Win rifle with a 20-inch barrel, a Turkish Walnut stock, and a 3-round detachable box magazine. It brings premium features to an affordable hunting rifle.
Stevens 334 243 Winchester Walnut Overview
The Stevens 334 is an affordable bolt-action centerfire rifle with features you usually find on more expensive hunting rifles. It uses a 60-degree bolt lift with three locking lugs, which gives you more room for the bolt handle under a scope and a fast, short throw when cycling. The carbon steel receiver has an integrated recoil lug and a steel Picatinny rail already installed, and the free-floating, button-rifled barrel is finished with an 11-degree target crown for consistent accuracy.
Action and Barrel
This model carries a 20-inch free-floating carbon steel barrel that is button-rifled for consistent bore dimensions with a 1:10″ twist rate. Free-floating the barrel keeps the stock from touching it, so shifts in temperature or grip pressure have less effect on point of impact. The 11-degree target crown protects the rifling at the muzzle, and the three-lug bolt locks up solidly with a short 60-degree lift.
Stock and Fit
The Stevens 334 243 Winchester Walnut wears a Turkish Walnut stock and fore-end. Length of pull is 14.5 inches. A recoil pad at the butt softens felt recoil and keeps the stock from slipping on your shoulder. Overall length is about 41 inches and the gun weighs about 7.2 lbs, solid enough to soak up recoil while still carrying comfortably.
Sights and Optics
The rifle does not come with iron sights. Instead, a steel MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail is mounted on the receiver, so you can add your choice of riflescope with standard Picatinny rings and no extra bases to buy.
In the Field
The 243 Winchester is a light-recoiling, flat-shooting cartridge that works well on deer, pronghorn, and varmints, which makes it a great choice for new or recoil-sensitive hunters. It is well suited to whitetail, mule deer, hogs, and similar game, and it makes an excellent first centerfire rifle or dependable truck gun.

Care and Cleaning
Cleaning is simple. After each outing, run a bore brush and patches through the barrel, wipe the metal with a light coat of gun oil, and check that the action is free of dirt and debris. Clean the bolt and lugs, keep the scope rail screws snug, and store the rifle in a dry place. Wipe the walnut with a soft cloth to keep moisture off the finish.
