Stars and Stripes 20ga Target 8 Shot 7/8 oz – Reliable 25 Round Box

Description

Stars and Stripes 20ga Target 8 Shot is a straightforward clay and small game load for the 20 gauge. The 2 3/4 inch hull carries 7/8 ounce of hardened lead at 1200 fps, and Cheddite of Italy loads it under the Stars and Stripes label. Twenty five rounds to the box. Number 8 shot gives a dense pattern for close targets and the light payload keeps recoil where a 20 gauge should be.

Why the 20 Gauge Still Makes Sense

The 20 gauge exists because not everybody wants a 12. A 7/8 ounce charge is a quarter less shot than a standard 12 gauge target load, and the recoil difference over a hundred targets is substantial. For young shooters, smaller framed shooters and anyone who has developed a flinch, moving to a 20 gauge target load solves a problem that no amount of coaching will.

Hardened lead is what separates a real target shell from a promotional one. Antimony alloyed into the lead makes the pellets resist deforming as they are squeezed through the forcing cone and choke, and round pellets fly straighter than misshapen ones. That translates directly into a more even pattern, which is what breaks clays.

Number 8 is the right size for the job this shell is built for. Skeet targets, close sporting presentations and dove over a field are all inside thirty five yards, and pellet count matters more than individual pellet energy at those distances. A 7/8 ounce charge of number 8 still holds plenty of pellets to fill a pattern.

Honest Notes on Light Target Loads

Know the range limit. Number 8 shot out of a 7/8 ounce charge is a close target proposition. Inside thirty five yards it is excellent and past forty it starts chipping clays rather than breaking them. If your sporting course throws long crossers, keep a box of number 7.5 in the bag and switch by station.

The 20 gauge asks more of the shooter. A smaller bore throws a shorter shot string and a slightly tighter pattern for the same choke, which means less margin for a sloppy lead than a 12. Most people who move down a gauge shoot better anyway because the recoil stops fighting them, but do not expect the gun to be more forgiving.

Lead restrictions apply where they apply. Most private clubs permit lead and reclaim it, but a growing number of ranges on public land require non toxic shot regardless of what you are shooting. Confirm before turning up somewhere new with a case of Stars and Stripes 20ga Target 8 Shot.

On price and availability, imported target shells are usually the value option and their supply is less predictable than the domestic brands. If a load patterns well in your gun, buying a case rather than a box is the sensible move.

We stock the same shell in number 7.5 shot for longer targets, and the Migra Staxd 20 gauge high brass load covers upland work. The manufacturer publishes its background on the Stripes and Stars Shells website.

Stars and Stripes 20ga Target 8 Shot suits skeet shooters, youth and smaller framed shooters, dove hunters and anyone running a 20 gauge who wants an affordable target shell. MAG5 Firearms is a family owned FFL in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Boxes ship where state and local law allows.
