Spandau S2 12 Gauge 24in Obsession Camo 3in – Proven Inertia Turkey Shotgun

Description

The Spandau S2 12 Gauge 24in Obsession (model 21000190) is an inertia-operated semi-automatic shotgun dipped stock to muzzle in Mossy Oak Obsession, a pattern designed around spring turkey woods. It has a 3 inch chamber, a 24 inch vent rib barrel, Benelli Mobil pattern chokes and a 3+1 capacity, and it is built in Turkey by Spandau Arms for SDS Arms of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Spandau S2 12 Gauge 24in Obsession Overview

Lipsey’s lists this S2 at 6 pounds 14 ounces and 48.75 inches overall. The receiver, barrel, stock and forend all carry the Obsession finish, so there is no shiny metal to catch a gobbler’s eye when you shift the gun on your knee. The controls are oversized, the loading gate is widened for faster reloads, and SDS says the S2 accepts many accessories built for the Benelli M2, which opens up a large aftermarket of stocks, extended bolt handles and choke tubes.

Built for Spring Woods

A 24 inch barrel is a practical length for turkey hunting. It is short enough to swing from a seated position against a tree and to carry through brush, yet long enough to keep a decent sighting plane. Obsession blends greens and browns that suit the leaf-out of April and May. Pair it with a facemask and gloves, since the gun itself is now the least visible thing you carry.

Inertia Operation and Recoil

The S2 cycles on inertia rather than gas. Recoil moves the gun back while the bolt body stays put for an instant, compressing a spring that then runs the action. The receiver stays clean and the gun stays light, but it also means more felt recoil than a gas gun with heavy 3 inch turkey loads. Inertia actions also need firm shoulder contact; a loose hold from an awkward seated position can short-cycle the next round.

Choke and Pattern Work

The barrel threads for Benelli Mobil pattern tubes, so aftermarket turkey chokes are easy to find. A dedicated constriction such as a Carlson TSS tube usually tightens patterns at 40 yards. Pattern at least three loads on paper before opening day, since every barrel prefers different shot sizes. Tungsten super shot hits hard at range but costs several dollars per shell.

Sights and Optics

The factory sight is a fiber optic front bead. For head-and-neck shots a red dot is a real upgrade, and you should confirm the receiver drilling and choose a mount before adding one. A bead alone works fine at 30 yards if you keep your cheek firmly on the stock.

Ownership Notes

Spandau is a young brand next to Benelli and Beretta, so resale value and local gunsmith familiarity are lower. Keep the box, wrench, shims and manual. A light coat of oil on the bolt is enough; inertia guns do not like a gummed-up action in cold mornings.

State Laws and Ownership

Spring turkey rules vary widely by state, including shot-size limits, shooting hours and capacity limits. Some states restrict hunting with semi-automatic shotguns holding more than three shells. Read your state digest, and ask your receiving FFL to confirm the transfer before ordering.
