Description

The Smith Wesson PC Shield Plus Carry Comp is the Performance Center Shield Plus Carry Comp with a 4 inch barrel, a ported slide, a night sight front and a thumb safety, supplied with ten-round magazines.
Smith Wesson PC Shield Plus Carry Comp A Longer Barrel on a Slim Frame
Most Shield Plus variants run a 3.1 inch barrel. This one stretches to 4 inches, which does three useful things: it adds velocity, it lengthens the sight radius, and it puts more mass ahead of your hand so the muzzle settles faster between shots.
The Carry Comp designation refers to the PowerPort, a set of ports that divert gas upward as the bullet leaves and push the muzzle down. Combined with the longer barrel, this is the flattest-shooting pistol in the Shield family.
The slide is stainless steel with a gray Armornite finish and is ported to match the barrel. Armornite is a hardened nitride treatment that resists sweat and humidity far better than a conventional coating.
Optics, Sights and Trigger
The slide is optic ready, and Smith and Wesson machines a ClearSight cut that routes propellant gas away from the optic window. On a ported pistol that detail matters more than usual, because there is more gas moving upward to begin with.
Sights are a night sight front against a blacked-out serrated rear, which is the correct arrangement for a defensive pistol: all the attention on the front sight, with a tritium reference for the dark.
The trigger is a flat-face unit with the PC tuned action, and the 18 degree grip angle carries over from the rest of the M&P line. A manual thumb safety is fitted, and the pistol ships with two ten-round magazines.
What Porting Costs You
Gas vented upward carries muzzle flash with it, so a ported pistol produces a noticeably brighter flash directly in front of your eyes in low light. On a defensive gun that is a genuine consideration, and it is the main argument against porting a carry pistol.
Ports also add to the cleaning routine. Carbon builds up in and around them, and keeping them clear takes a few extra minutes each session.
Finally, venting gas before the bullet leaves costs a small amount of velocity. On a 4 inch barrel the loss is minor, and the 4 inch length more than makes up for it compared with the 3.1 inch guns in the same family, but it is part of the equation.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson PC Shield Plus Carry Comp
A 4 inch barrel on a Shield-width frame is an unusual combination: the velocity and sight radius of a compact with the width of a micro-compact.
Porting plus the extra barrel weight makes this the flattest-shooting pistol in the line, which shows up directly in split times.
An optic-ready slide with a ClearSight cut and a tritium front sight means the pistol is complete as a red dot host without buying anything else.
Buying a pistol that already ships compliant saves the cost and nuisance of replacing magazines before you can take delivery.
Who Should Buy It
The Smith Wesson PC Shield Plus Carry Comp suits carriers who want maximum shootability from a slim pistol, shooters in capacity-limited states, and anyone mounting a red dot who wants proper backup irons. Ported barrels vent flash upward, which is more noticeable in low light, and the thumb safety needs practice until it is automatic.
