Description

Smith Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Copper copper finished full size optic ready 9mm pistol

The Smith Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Copper is the full size M2.0 finished in copper rather than the usual black, with a 4.25 inch barrel and a factory optic cut. Underneath the colour it is the standard full size service pistol that a great many American police departments carry.

Smith Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Copper Full Size Handling

The full size frame is the version that shoots best, and the reason is uncomplicated: a longer grip gives the whole hand somewhere to go, a longer slide gives a longer sight radius, and the extra few ounces absorb recoil that a lighter gun passes into the wrist. Where concealment is not the deciding factor, this is the M2.0 to choose.

The 4.25 inch barrel and the optic ready slide work together here. A long sight radius already makes iron sights precise, and adding a red dot on top gives a sighting system that stays fast up close without losing anything at distance. The slide is cut at the factory and ships with mounting plates, so no milling is required.

M2.0 Platform Features

The M2.0 generation addressed what owners of the original M&P asked for. Grip texture went from a smooth orange peel finish to aggressive stippling closer to skateboard tape, so the pistol stays located in wet or gloved hands. A fourth palm swell size was added, giving small, medium, medium large and large, so grip circumference can be matched to the hand rather than approximated.

Internally a rigid stainless chassis is moulded into the polymer along most of the frame length, stiffening the frame and giving the cross pins something solid to locate against. The trigger runs roughly half a pound lighter than the original with a shorter and far more distinct reset. The barrel carries Armornite, a nitride treatment that hardens the surface rather than sitting on top as a coating.

Fitting the Grip

The palm swell inserts reward a few minutes of attention rather than being left at the factory setting. Swapping one takes a punch and about a minute: drive out the frame pin at the base of the backstrap, lift the insert clear, fit the replacement and reinsert the pin. Most shooters reach for the smallest insert their trigger finger can work with, but the better test is whether the web of the hand sits centred behind the bore with the finger landing on its pad rather than the joint.

A grip slightly too small lets the pistol shift under recoil, and that costs more in follow up speed than a marginally longer trigger reach. Shooters commonly settle one size larger than they first expect, which is exactly why four sizes are supplied rather than two.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Copper

Most service pistols are black because departments buy them that way, and the aftermarket answer has always been to pay someone to refinish one. Getting a copper finish from the factory means no coating over factory markings, no warranty question and no gun sitting at a shop for weeks.

Everything that makes the M2.0 worth buying is unchanged underneath. This is not a display piece with a compromised action; it is a standard full size service pistol that happens to look different.

Who Should Buy It

The Smith Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Copper suits the shooter who wants a full size home defence or range pistol with some visual character, the buyer mounting a red dot who wants a factory cut, and anyone whose hand has never quite fitted a fixed grip pistol.
