Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety – Superb 5.7×28 Pistol

Description

The Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety is The Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety is the version of the high capacity 5.

7 pistol for shooters who want a manual safety on a striker fired gun. Everything else is unchanged: twenty-two rounds in a flush magazine, a five inch threaded barrel ready for a suppressor or muzzle device, an optics ready slide, and the gas operated locking system Smith Wesson developed to make a high pressure bottleneck cartridge behave gently. The result is one of the softest shooting centerfire pistols on the market with a capacity no 9mm of the same size can match.

Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety Gas System, Capacity And Safety

The thumb safety is the reason to choose the Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety over the version without one. Some shooters simply want a mechanical safety on a carry or duty pistol, some are transitioning from a platform that has one, and some carry in bags or packs where holster coverage is less certain. The safety sits where your thumb naturally rests and sweeps off as part of establishing a firing grip, but it still needs practice until it is reflexive.

The gas operated action is what makes this pistol unusual. Instead of a conventional blowback or tilting barrel, it bleeds gas to delay the slide, which lets a high pressure cartridge run without a heavy spring or a harsh impulse. Felt recoil is remarkably light and the slide is easy to work.

Twenty-two rounds fits in a flush magazine because the 5.7x28mm case is slim. A grip no larger than a standard 9mm holds substantially more, which matters for home defense and competition.

The threaded five inch barrel and the optics ready slide mean a suppressor and a red dot both fit without gunsmithing.

Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety Ammunition Cost And Honest Limits

Ammunition is the real consideration with the Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety. The 5.7x28mm cartridge costs noticeably more per round than 9mm, shelf availability is thinner, and handloading a bottleneck case is more work than a straight walled one. Check current prices before buying rather than after, because practice cost adds up quickly at this capacity.

Terminal performance deserves your own research rather than a marketing claim. The cartridge drives a very light bullet very fast, which produces flat trajectory and mild recoil but behaves differently from a heavier pistol bullet. Good defensive loads exist and so does ammunition that is strictly for the range. Know which you have bought.

This is a full size pistol and the threaded barrel makes it longer still. It is a home defense, range and competition gun rather than a concealed carry piece for most people.

A manual safety only helps if using it is automatic, so practice the draw until sweeping it off requires no thought at all.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety

Buy the Smith Wesson M P 5.7 Thumb Safety if you want extremely high capacity, very light recoil, a factory threaded barrel and a manual safety in one package. The gas operated system makes follow up shots fast and long sessions comfortable, twenty-two rounds flush is a real advantage for home defense and competition, and the optics ready slide means a red dot is a screwdriver away.

Skip it if ammunition cost is a concern, because 5.7x28mm is meaningfully more expensive and less widely stocked than 9mm. Skip it if you dislike manual safeties and want fewer steps in the draw, since a version without one exists. And skip it if you need a concealed carry pistol, because this is a large handgun.
