Smith Wesson FPC 5.7x28 22 Round black folding 5.7x28mm carbine with 22 round magazine

The Smith Wesson FPC 5.7×28 22 Round is the M&P FPC in 5.7x28mm with three 22-round magazines, a side-folding carbine weighing just over four pounds with a threaded 16.25 inch barrel.

Smith Wesson FPC 5.7×28 22 Round 5.7x28mm Out of a Carbine

5.7x28mm was designed as a rifle-adjacent cartridge in a pistol-sized package, firing a small, fast bullet with very little recoil. Out of a 16.25 inch barrel it does what it was always meant to do, reaching velocities a pistol cannot and flattening trajectory considerably.

Recoil is close to nonexistent. That combination of flat trajectory and almost no muzzle rise makes this one of the easiest centerfire carbines to shoot well, particularly for smaller-framed or newer shooters who find 5.56 sharp.

At 65.2 ounces the FPC 5.7 is the lightest carbine in the line, roughly four pounds and change, and three 22-round magazines mean 66 rounds travel with the gun.

Folding Design and Storage

The carbine folds horizontally to the side, which keeps a mounted optic clear of the mechanism and keeps it zeroed. Folded it measures 16 and three eighths inches; unfolded, 30 and three eighths. That is small enough for a backpack or the space behind a truck seat.

Slots in the stock hold two spare magazines onboard behind a quick-release tab system, so the carbine and its reloads travel as a single package. The charging slide doubles as a retainer that holds the gun closed when folded.

The muzzle is threaded with a thread protector fitted, an M-LOK handguard carries a Picatinny rail on top for optics and accessories, and the stock is a fixed polymer unit with a 14.5 inch length of pull. The magazine catch is reversible for left-handed shooters.

What 5.7x28mm Is and Is Not

5.7x28mm was developed by FN in the late 1980s as a replacement for 9mm in personal defense weapons, firing a very light bullet at rifle-like speed. It is a genuinely different proposition from a pistol caliber carbine: flatter shooting, much less recoil, and with far better performance against barriers than its small bullet diameter suggests.

What it is not is a substitute for 5.56. Bullet weights are a fraction of a rifle round and energy falls off faster at distance. Inside 150 yards it is effective and remarkably easy to shoot; past that a rifle cartridge does the job better.

Ammunition selection also matters more than with common cartridges. Loads vary considerably in bullet construction and intended use, and inexpensive range ammunition behaves quite differently from the defensive and hunting loads. Buy a few types and see what your carbine prefers before settling.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson FPC 5.7×28 22 Round

5.7x28mm out of a carbine barrel is where the cartridge makes the most sense, gaining several hundred feet per second over a pistol and shooting genuinely flat inside 150 yards.

At around four pounds this is light enough to carry all day or keep in a pack without noticing it, which is unusual for a centerfire carbine.

Sixty-six rounds across three magazines, two of which store inside the stock, means the whole system travels together and is ready to use out of the case.

Recoil is so mild that follow-up shots are almost instant and new shooters are not intimidated, while the cartridge still carries real velocity.

Who Should Buy It

The Smith Wesson FPC 5.7×28 22 Round suits shooters who want a very light, very low-recoil carbine, 5.7 pistol owners who want a rifle in the same cartridge, and anyone wanting a compact truck or pack gun. Bear in mind that 5.7x28mm ammunition costs more than 9mm and is stocked by fewer shops, so plan on ordering it.
