Smith Wesson CSX E-Series 3.6 in 10 Rd black 9mm aluminum frame pistol with ten round magazine

The Smith Wesson CSX E-Series 3.6 in 10 Rd is the ten-round configuration of the aluminum-framed CSX, built for shooters in states that cap magazine capacity and shipping with both a flush and an extended ten-round magazine.

Smith Wesson CSX E-Series 3.6 in 10 Rd Built for Capacity-Limited States

This is the same pistol as the standard CSX E-Series 3.6 inch in every mechanical respect. The difference is what comes in the box: one flush-fitting ten-round magazine and one extended ten-round magazine, rather than the 12, 15 and 17 round set that ships with the standard version.

The flush magazine keeps the grip short for concealment. The extended magazine adds length for a full firing hold without adding a single round, which is exactly the compromise a capacity-limited shooter needs. Both hold ten.

Everything else carries over. Aluminum alloy frame in flat black, stainless steel slide with an Armornite finish, and a 3.6 inch stainless barrel with a 1:10 twist. Weight is 22 ounces.

Trigger, Optics and Grip

The CSX is hammer fired rather than striker fired, and the E-Series trigger uses that to deliver a light clean break with a short reset. The pull travels straighter to the rear than the original CSX trigger did, which helps with accuracy under speed.

The slide is cut for a modified RMS-C and 507K optic footprint and includes a ClearSight gas cut that routes propellant gas away from the optic lens. White dot iron sights are fitted from the factory.

A modular grip adapter converts the frame between micro-compact and compact size, and interchangeable backstraps let you tune reach to the trigger separately.

Practical Notes

Ten rounds changes how you should think about reloads. With a seventeen-round pistol most people carry one spare magazine out of habit; with a ten-round gun a spare is closer to essential, and practising the reload matters more than it would otherwise.

The manual thumb safety is a genuine dividing line among carriers. If you learned on 1911s it will feel like home, and if every pistol you have carried has been a striker gun without one, plan on dry-fire practice until sweeping it off is automatic rather than a conscious step.

Whichever defensive load you settle on, run several magazines of it through the pistol before you carry it. Short-barrelled 9mm pistols are more sensitive to load selection than full-size guns, both in reliability and in where the point of impact falls relative to the sights.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson CSX E-Series 3.6 in 10 Rd

If your state limits magazine capacity, buying a pistol that ships with compliant magazines saves you the cost and hassle of replacing the ones in the box before you can even take it home.

The extended ten-round magazine is the detail that makes this version worth having. You get a full-hand grip without exceeding the limit, which is not something every manufacturer bothers to offer.

An aluminum frame gives this pistol noticeably less muzzle rise than a polymer gun of the same size, so the ten rounds you do have are easier to place well.

A hammer-fired action means a better trigger than most striker guns in this class and the ability to try a second strike on a hard primer.

Who Should Buy It

The Smith Wesson CSX E-Series 3.6 in 10 Rd suits shooters in capacity-limited states who want a modern optic-ready carry pistol without buying replacement magazines, and anyone who prefers the balance and trigger of a metal-framed 9mm. The manual thumb safety suits some carriers more than others, so try one if you can.
