Description
The Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp is the Performance Center version of the micro .380 – twelve rounds in a pistol small enough for a pocket, with the barrel ported from the factory to hold the muzzle down. The slide is grey Armornite against a black polymer frame, and there is a manual thumb safety.
Twelve plus one in a .380 this size is the headline. The original Bodyguard held six.
Part number 14417, UPC 022188901986. Deep stock.
What the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp is
- .380 ACP, 12+1 capacity in a micro frame
- 3.10-inch black Armornite barrel, ported
- Grey Armornite stainless steel slide with serrations
- Black polymer micro frame
- Black textured grip
- Manual thumb safety
- Performance Center build

Porting on a pocket .380, and whether it is worth it
- On the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp, gas bled through ports in the top of the barrel pushes the muzzle down. On a pistol weighing well under a pound that is a real, felt difference between the first shot and the second
- .380 does not recoil hard in absolute terms, but a very light pistol amplifies whatever recoil there is. This is exactly the size of gun that benefits most from porting
- The cost is noise and flash. A ported micro is loud, and in low light the flash is noticeable. Indoors without hearing protection it is unpleasant – that is the honest trade
- Ports also throw gas upward, so keep your support thumb well back and do not fire it from a close retention position against your own body
- Ports foul. Dirty or heavily waxed ammunition will build up in them faster than in a plain barrel, so clean it more often than you would a standard pistol

Why .380 and not 9mm
The Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp fires .380 ACP, which carries meaningfully less energy than 9mm and nobody should pretend otherwise. What it offers is a pistol this small that is still pleasant to shoot, because the cartridge does not need a locked breech and a heavy slide to contain it. A 9mm of the same dimensions exists and is harder work to shoot well.
The right way to choose is honest: if recoil, hand strength or slide-racking effort is a real constraint, .380 in a gun you will practise with beats 9mm in a gun you will not. If neither is a constraint, buy the 9mm. Twelve rounds narrows the gap considerably either way.
Practice is cheap, so do it
We stock CCI Blazer Brass 380 ACP 95gr in quantity, which is the inexpensive brass-cased practice load this pistol wants. Shoot that by the box and save the defensive load for confirming point of impact and function – always run at least a box of your carry ammunition through a micro pistol before you trust it, because short-barrelled guns are the fussiest about feeding.
.380 ACP is standardised by SAAMI.
Other small carry pistols we stock
In the same class the Taurus GX4 Carry in .380 holds fifteen, and if you decide 9mm is the answer after all the M&P Shield X gives you fifteen rounds in a sub-compact.
Why the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp earns its place
- Twelve rounds of .380 from the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp, a pocket-sized pistol, which was not available a few years ago
- Factory porting on exactly the size of gun that benefits from it most
- A thumb safety for pocket carry, where things move around
- Armornite finish, which handles being carried against skin
- Deep stock, so no waiting
Be clear about what this is. It is a deep-concealment pistol – a pocket gun, an ankle gun, a summer gun. It is not a range pistol and it is not a duty gun, and the short sight radius and small grip make it harder to shoot accurately at distance than anything larger.
The other honest point is the noise. Porting makes a small .380 loud. If it might be fired indoors without ear protection, weigh that against the flatter recoil – plenty of people decide the trade is worth it and some do not.
Within those limits, the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Comp is about as much gun as anyone has fitted into this size. MAG5 Firearms ships to your FFL.
