Description
The Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag is the 44 Magnum version of Smith & Wesson’s modern lever gun, built in stainless with a synthetic stock and an oversized loop lever. Forty-four Magnum out of a 19.25-inch barrel is a different animal from the same cartridge in a revolver — the extra barrel length adds real velocity, and the rifle weight makes it comfortable to shoot.

What the Large Loop on the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag Is For
An oversized lever loop looks like a movie prop to people who have not used one, but it has a practical purpose: it clears a gloved hand. If you hunt in cold weather or run this rifle with anything on your hands, a standard loop becomes a problem fast. The Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag solves that.
It also makes the cycling stroke slightly easier to index consistently, which matters when you are working the lever without looking at it.
44 Magnum From a Rifle Barrel
A 19.25-inch barrel does things to 44 Magnum that a revolver cannot. Velocity climbs several hundred feet per second, trajectory flattens, and the cartridge becomes a genuinely capable deer and hog round out past a hundred yards. Recoil drops at the same time, because rifle weight absorbs what a handgun cannot.
If you already own a 44 Magnum revolver, the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag shares ammunition with it, which is the classic reason people pair the two.
Practically, the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag turns a handgun cartridge into a short-range rifle cartridge, which is the entire appeal of a pistol-caliber lever gun.
Stainless and Synthetic: Why the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag Is Built This Way
Stainless barrel and receiver with a synthetic stock is the build for people who take a rifle out in weather rather than keeping it clean. It resists corrosion better than blued steel and the stock will not swell or check. An M-LOK forend accepts a light or a sling mount without drilling.
The muzzle is threaded, so a brake or a suppressor is possible. A suppressor means the federal NFA process and we do not sell NFA items, so that comes from a dealer with an SOT.

Who the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag Is For
Woods hunters working thick cover where shots are close and fast, and anyone who already shoots 44 Magnum in a handgun and wants a rifle that feeds the same box of ammunition. Nine rounds in the tube is a lot of capacity for a lever gun. It also makes a capable truck or camp rifle.
Cowboy action shooters will want the traditional wood-stocked versions instead; the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag is built for field use, not period correctness.
Ammunition and Feeding
Tube magazine means flat-point or polymer-tipped bullets only — never pointed spitzers. Heavy 240 to 300 grain loads are the hunting choice; 44 Special will also chamber and makes cheap, mild practice ammunition, which is a genuine advantage of this cartridge.
Lever actions care about overall cartridge length, so stick to factory ammunition or proven handloads until you have confirmed they cycle in the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag.
Optics and Carry
A receiver rail takes a red dot or a low-power scope. For the distances this rifle works at, a dot is hard to beat and keeps the weight down. Iron sights remain usable underneath.
Add a padded sling early. A loaded lever gun in 44 Magnum is heavier than it looks, and you feel it after a few hours in the woods.
Most owners of the Smith Wesson 1854 Large Loop 44 Mag end up running a red dot, since shots inside a hundred yards do not need magnification.
