Description

Sig Sauer P226 XFive Classic 9mm stainless competition pistol

The P226 built its reputation as a service pistol, and the XFive Classic is what happens when Sig hands that platform to its custom shop. The Sig Sauer P226 XFive Classic 9mm is stainless throughout, weighs about forty six ounces, and runs a single action only trigger that adjusts three different ways. It is a deliberate, heavy, precise pistol in an era of light polymer, and that is entirely the point.

A Custom Shop P226 In Stainless

The trigger is the heart of it. Where a standard P226 runs double action then single action, this is single action only with a manual safety, and the trigger adjusts for pull weight, over travel and length of pull with a removable shoe. That level of adjustment is normally the preserve of custom 1911 builders, and it means the gun can be tuned to one shooter rather than to an average.

Weight does the rest. At roughly 46 ounces with a 5 inch bull barrel, the muzzle barely moves under 9mm recoil. The frame and slide are both stainless, and the bull barrel puts mass out front where it steadies the sight picture between shots. Overall length is 8.6 inches and height 5.9 inches.

The frame carries an M1913 accessory rail and an alloy magwell for fast reloads. Grips are custom Hogue, either Cocobolo wood or G10 Piranha depending on configuration, and the width varies slightly with the panels fitted.

Sights, Optics And Magazines

Sights are a fiber optic front against a Dawson style adjustable rear. Adjustable rather than drift only is what a competition gun needs, because you can zero precisely for one load and return to that setting. The rear assembly is removable, which is how the pistol becomes optic ready on the Sig PRO footprint if you prefer a dot.

Three 20 round steel magazines ship with the pistol, fitted with alloy base pads. Three magazines is a genuine match loadout rather than a token, and twenty rounds puts this comfortably into competition territory. Ten round versions exist for capacity restricted states.

Everything about the specification points the same way: this is a range and competition pistol built to be shot a great deal. The stainless construction resists wear, the adjustable trigger rewards a shooter who knows what they want, and the weight makes long strings comfortable.

Every P226 XFive Classic ships from the Sig Sauer Custom Works bench with three steel twenty round magazines, an alloy magwell already fitted, and a fiber optic front sight installed. The single action only trigger is adjustable for pull weight, over travel and length of pull, and the removable trigger shoe lets a shooter swap in a different face without sending the gun back. The stainless steel frame carries an M1913 rail up front for a competition light or laser.

Why Buyers Choose The Sig Sauer P226 XFive Classic 9mm

Competitive shooters pick this gun because the all stainless steel frame and slide put roughly forty six ounces of mass between the hand and the recoil impulse. That weight is a liability in a carry gun and an asset on a stage, where it keeps the muzzle flat and the dot or the fiber optic front sight close to where it started.

The single action only trigger is the other half of the argument. A short, light, fully adjustable break is easier to run fast and clean than a double action first shot, and the alloy magwell funnels each of the three twenty round magazines into place without a fumble on a reload.

Collectors and range shooters buy it for a different reason. The Cocobolo or G10 grip panels, the hand fitted stainless frame and the Dawson style adjustable rear sight make this one of the nicest looking guns Sig builds, and it shoots as well as it looks.

Who Should Buy The Sig Sauer P226 XFive Classic 9mm

The Sig Sauer P226 XFive Classic 9mm suits USPSA and IDPA competitors in Limited and Production divisions, bullseye and steel challenge shooters, and anyone who wants a range gun that will outlast them. It is not a concealed carry pistol; at forty six ounces with a five inch barrel and an eight and a half inch overall length it is built for the bench and the berm, not the belt line.
