SIG Sauer 277 Fury 150gr Hybrid Hunter ammunition 20 round box

SIG Sauer 277 Fury 150gr Hybrid Hunter ammunition is the hunting load in the 6.8x51mm family that grew out of the US Army Next Generation Squad Weapon programme. Catalogued as H277SFAB150-20, it seats a 150 grain Nosler AccuBond bonded core bullet in a three piece hybrid case with a stainless steel head, and pushes it to 3000 fps for 3097 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Twenty rounds to the box.

Why the Hybrid Case Matters

Conventional brass rifle cases run out of headroom somewhere around 65,000 psi. The SIG FURY hybrid case ammunition design gets around that by joining a stainless steel case head to a brass body with a locking washer, which lets the cartridge operate at roughly 80,000 psi without the case head letting go. The practical result is that a short 51mm case delivers velocity a shooter would otherwise need a long magnum action to reach.

That is what makes SIG Sauer 277 Fury 150gr Hybrid Hunter worth the money. A 150 grain .277 bullet at 3000 fps from a 16 to 24 inch barrel puts this load squarely in .270 Winchester territory while fitting a short action. Trajectory is flat, wind drift is modest, and the retained energy at 400 yards is still comfortably inside the range most people consider ethical for elk.

The bullet is the other half of the story. Nosler AccuBond bonded core construction chemically bonds the lead core to the jacket, so the bullet holds together through heavy bone and keeps driving. Expect controlled expansion, high weight retention and straight line penetration rather than the explosive upset of a varmint bullet. On thin skinned game at close range this 277 SIG Fury ammo will not blow up, and on a raking shot on a bull elk it will reach the vitals.

Specifications for H277SFAB150-20

SIG builds this load on the same hybrid case used by the military XM7 and XM250 programme, and it is loaded to full pressure. Published figures come from a 24 inch test barrel. The Nosler AccuBond bonded core bullet carries a G1 ballistic coefficient of roughly 0.50.

Field Notes and Honest Caveats

Be honest with yourself about cost. This is expensive ammunition, several times the price per round of a comparable .270 Winchester hunting load, and it is not a cartridge you casually burn through at the range. Most owners sight in, confirm a drop chart and then save the rest for the season. Budget for a box to zero and a box to hunt.

Reloading is the second caveat and it is a real one. The three piece hybrid case is not conventionally reloadable in the way brass is. Dies exist and some handloaders do reuse the cases with reduced loads, but you cannot treat spent hybrid case ammunition like once fired brass, and nobody should be running 80,000 psi handloads without knowing exactly what they are doing.

Barrel life and recoil are worth mentioning too. Running any cartridge at 80,000 psi is harder on a throat than a standard pressure round, and a 150 grain bullet at 3000 fps in a light mountain rifle kicks noticeably more than a 6.5 Creedmoor. Neither is a dealbreaker for a hunting rifle that sees a few hundred rounds a year, but both matter if you plan high volume practice.

Finally, make sure your rifle is actually rated for it. SIG Sauer 277 Fury 150gr Hybrid Hunter ammunition must be fired only in firearms chambered and proofed for 277 SIG Fury. It is not interchangeable with .270 Winchester, .277 Wolverine or any other .277 cartridge, and the pressure it generates will destroy a rifle that was not built for it.

Shooters running this cartridge often pair it with the 155 grain Hybrid Match load for practice and long range work, or the SIG Cross rifle in 277 Fury if you still need a host. Full factory ballistics are published on the SIG Sauer product page.

SIG Sauer 277 Fury 150gr Hybrid Hunter ammunition suits western hunters, guided elk hunters and anyone running a Cross, Cross Magnum or other 277 SIG Fury chambered rifle who wants magnum performance out of a short action. MAG5 Firearms is a family owned FFL in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and we stock H277SFAB150-20 in twenty round boxes. Orders ship where state and local law allows.
