Description
The Savage Axis II 400 Legend LH Gray is a true left hand bolt action deer rifle chambered for Winchester’s 400 Legend. Savage pairs the affordable Axis II action with a 20-inch threaded barrel and a gray synthetic stock, giving lefties a rifle built for them rather than an adaptation. This listing is Savage model 33155, UPC 011356331557 (Sports South item 199899).
Savage Axis II 400 Legend LH Gray Overview
Savage designed the latest Axis line with threaded barrels and an adaptable length of pull, updating a rifle that has long been one of the best values in centerfire hunting rifles. On this model, the bolt handle and ejection port are on the left side, so left-handed shooters can cycle the action without breaking their cheek weld or reaching over the rifle.
Why a 400 Legend Rifle
The 400 Legend is a straight wall cartridge introduced to meet the requirements of states that limit deer hunting in certain zones to straight-wall rifle cartridges, including several Midwestern states. It fires a .40-caliber bullet, commonly 215 grains, at velocities suitable for deer out to typical woods and field distances, with moderate recoil. Always check your state’s current straight-wall rules and minimum case length before hunting.
Threaded Barrel and Stock
The 20-inch matte black carbon steel barrel is threaded at the muzzle, so you can add a muzzle brake or, where legal and properly registered under the NFA, a suppressor. The gray synthetic stock has a pistol grip and is built to shrug off rain and mud. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases.

Before You Buy the Savage Axis II 400 Legend LH Gray
400 Legend ammunition is newer and less widely stocked than 350 Legend or .30-06, so check availability before the season. The Axis line is a budget-friendly rifle; it is accurate and dependable, but fit and finish are simpler than premium models, and you will need to add a scope and rings. Left-hand rifles also need left-hand compatible accessories such as some bolt-knob upgrades.
Setting Up the Savage Axis II 400 Legend LH Gray
A 3-9×40 or 2-7x scope in quality rings is a natural match for this rifle, since most 400 Legend shots on deer happen inside 200 yards. Zero with the exact load you plan to hunt with, and confirm point of impact at 100 and 150 yards so you know the drop. Add a simple sling and, if you hunt from a stand, a set of shooting sticks. With those basics, the Savage Axis II 400 Legend LH Gray is ready for opening day.
Who It Is For
This rifle is ideal for left-handed deer hunters in straight-wall states, new hunters who want a reliable rifle at a fair price, and anyone who wants a compact, threaded bolt gun for whitetail in the woods. Savage also offers the same left-hand Axis II in other stock colors and as the upgraded Axis II Pro.
