Description
The Savage A Series Target Thumbhole 17 WSM is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle with a 22-inch heavy carbon steel barrel, a gray laminate thumbhole stock, a 8-round detachable magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger. It weighs about 7.1 lbs.
Savage A Series Target Thumbhole 17 WSM Overview
Savage has built a reputation for accurate, dependable firearms at fair prices, and the A Series Target Thumbhole continues that tradition with practical features that matter in the field and at the range. It is the kind of gun that earns a permanent place in the safe because it simply works, shot after shot, without fuss or expensive upgrades. The 17 Winchester Super Magnum is the fastest rimfire cartridge available, pushing light bullets past 3,000 feet per second for flat-shooting reach on varmints and predators well beyond typical rimfire range.
Barrel and Action
The 22-inch heavy carbon steel barrel has a high luster finish and a 1:8″ twist matched to 17 WSM bullets. The heavier profile steadies the rifle and resists heat for tight groups from a rest.
Stock and Fit
The gray laminate thumbhole stock is built to handle real-world use, and laminate resists moisture and warping better than solid wood. Length of pull is 13.5″. Overall length is about 41.5″.
Sights and Optics
Scope bases (2 Piece, Weaver Style) come installed, so mounting an optic is quick and simple.
Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break, and the center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge. A light, predictable trigger makes accurate shooting much easier.
Capacity and Handling
The 8-round detachable magazine loads easily and makes unloading quick and safe. Spare magazines make range days more productive.
In the Field
Rimfire guns often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 WSM to find the one that groups best in your barrel. Pair it with a quality optic and a steady rest for the best results.
Key Features
Highlights from the factory spec sheet: Gray wood-laminate thumbhole stock; Fluted heavy target barrel; Straight-blowback action; Hard chrome bolt with oversized bolt handle; Case-hardened receiver and button-rifled barrel; 10-round rotary magazine.
Ownership and Value
A quality rimfire is one of the most useful guns a family can own. It teaches fundamentals, controls pests, fills the freezer with small game, and provides endless low-cost practice. Savage rimfires are known for accuracy that punches well above their price, and spare magazines, scope mounts, and accessories are easy to find.
Care and Cleaning
A little routine care keeps the Savage A Series Target Thumbhole 17 WSM running smoothly. After each outing, wipe down exposed metal, clean the bore, keep moving parts lightly lubricated, and store the gun in a dry place.
