Description
The Savage 93R17 GVXP 17 HMR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle with a 21-inch heavy varmint carbon steel barrel, a brown hardwood stock, a 5-round detachable box magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger, plus a mounted 3-9×40 scope. It weighs about 7 lbs and is built to shoot small groups.
Savage 93R17 GVXP 17 HMR Overview
The Savage Model 93 has earned a reputation as one of the most accurate magnum rimfire bolt actions on the market. It pairs a strong, simple bolt design with a quality barrel and Savage’s adjustable trigger, so it shoots well right out of the box at a price that leaves room for good ammunition and optics. The 17 HMR fires a light, fast bullet with a remarkably flat trajectory, making it a favorite for groundhogs, prairie dogs, crows, and other small varmints out past 150 yards.
Barrel Built for Accuracy
The 21-inch heavy varmint carbon steel barrel is button-rifled for consistent, uniform grooves, with a 1:9″ twist matched to 17 HMR bullets. The heavier profile resists heat and steadies the rifle, which helps hold groups tight from a rest.
Stock and Fit
The brown hardwood stock gives the rifle a classic, traditional look and a solid feel. Wood is a natural material, so every stock shows its own grain and color. A 13.75-inch length of pull fits a wide range of shooters.
Mounted and Bore-Sighted Scope
This XP package comes with a 3-9x40mm scope already mounted and bore-sighted, so you can confirm your zero at the range and start hunting with minimal setup. The 3x setting is great for quick shots, and 9x helps you place precise shots on small targets.
User-Adjustable Trigger
The Savage AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break. A light, predictable trigger makes a big difference on small targets, and the center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge.
Detachable Magazine
The rifle feeds from a 5-round detachable box magazine that sits low and out of the way. Spare magazines make range sessions more productive, and removing the magazine makes unloading quick and safe between hunts.
Choosing Ammunition
Rimfire rifles often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 HMR to see which groups best in your barrel. Lighter, faster bullets are great for small pests, while heavier bullets buck the wind better. Pair the rifle with a solid rest and a quality optic, and you will be surprised how far you can make precise hits.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition is dirtier than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage 93R17 GVXP 17 HMR running smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range day, run a few patches through the bore from the breech end, wipe down the bolt, and add a light coat of oil to metal surfaces. Check that the action screws stay snug, store the rifle in a dry place, and it will deliver years of dependable service in the field and on the bench.
