Description
The Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone is the compliance-configured version of Ruger’s ten-round pocket 380, wearing a matte stainless slide over a black polymer frame. Ten and a half ounces, a 2.8-inch barrel, and a tritium front sight fitted from the factory.
It is the same pistol that made the original LCP look dated overnight. The Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone stacks ten rounds of 380 ACP into a flush-fitting magazine in a gun that still disappears into a trouser pocket, which was not possible in this size class before it arrived.
What the two-tone configuration includes
- The Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone wears a matte stainless serrated slide over a black oxide alloy steel barrel, which is the visual difference.
- A magazine disconnect, so the pistol will not fire with the magazine removed.
- A loaded chamber indicator you can see and feel.
- A tritium front night sight as standard rather than as an upgrade.
- Everything else is standard LCP MAX, so holsters, magazines and parts interchange freely.

Living with a ten-ounce pocket pistol
- Ten rounds in a flush magazine is what the Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone is built around, and it is the whole reason this pistol exists; nothing else this small carried that many when it launched.
- The magazine disconnect is worth understanding before you buy: drop the magazine and the pistol is inert, even with a round chambered.
- Only one magazine ships in the box. Buy a second before you start carrying it.
- A 2.8-inch barrel means 380 leaves this gun well below the velocity printed on the box, so pick a defensive load designed for short barrels.
- Ten and a half ounces is light enough to forget and light enough to be brisk in recoil; both things are true.

380 ACP is a standardized cartridge, with pressure and dimensional limits published by SAAMI. At 2.8 inches of barrel, expansion becomes genuinely load-dependent, so the ammunition you choose matters more here than it would on a service pistol. Shoot a full box through the Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone before you trust it, and shoot it in the grip you will actually use.
For practice with the Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone, CCI Blazer Brass 95 gr FMJ is the sensible cost. For carry, Grizzly 90 gr JHP is the defensive load to confirm in the gun.
If you would rather have an all-black pistol, the standard LCP MAX is the same gun without the stainless slide, and the 250th Anniversary edition adds a Liberty Blue frame and an engraved slide. The window-cut slide version trims a little more weight.
Compliance note: this pistol is built with the magazine disconnect and loaded chamber indicator that restricted states ask for, but our distributors will not ship this model into California. Check your own state rules before ordering, and we will tell you if there is a problem before we take payment.
Why the Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone earns its place
- Ten rounds of 380 in a ten-and-a-half-ounce pistol, which is still the benchmark in this size.
- A tritium front sight fitted as standard, which most competitors charge extra for.
- Stainless slide over a black frame, which looks better than it has any right to at the price.
- Full parts, magazine and holster compatibility with every other LCP MAX.
- Ruger service support and a parts supply that is not going anywhere.
Be honest about the recoil of the Ruger LCP MAX Two-Tone. A 10.6-ounce pistol firing 380 ACP is brisk, and fifty rounds in a sitting will remind you what you are holding. This is a gun to carry a great deal and shoot in short, deliberate strings, not a range toy.
Also think about the magazine disconnect before you buy. Some people want it and some consider it a liability in a defensive gun; neither view is unreasonable, but you should know it is there. If you would rather not have one, the standard LCP MAX is the version to buy.
