Description

Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry rifle with carbon fiber barrel and green tan Flash Forged Technology stock

The Christensen Arms Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry is a purpose-built mountain rifle, and this configuration is the sharpest expression of it: a 16.25-inch Aerograde carbon fiber wrapped barrel chambered in a cartridge specifically engineered to perform out of short barrels. The Flash Forged Technology stock is the lightest Christensen builds, finished in green with tan and black accents.

Starting weight for the Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry is 5.4 pounds, and with the shortest barrel in the line this build sits at the light end of that. Christensen backs every one with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee.

Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry Barrel and Muzzle

The barrel is 416R stainless steel wrapped in Aerograde carbon fiber, button rifled with a match chamber and free floated through the forend. The 1:8 twist stabilizes the long, high-BC 7mm bullets that make this cartridge worth choosing.

Threads are 5/8×24, and the rifle ships with a removable stainless side-baffle brake installed. Swap the brake for a suppressor and you have an extremely compact package: 7mm Backcountry was designed around exactly this use case, running high pressure to recover the velocity a short barrel normally gives up.

Action, Trigger and Stock

The receiver is a Christensen Arms precision machined action, spot bedded into the stock and compatible with standard Remington 700 optics bases. Feeding comes from an internal magazine with an aluminum hinged floorplate, holding four rounds, and an aftermarket conversion kit allows AICS detachable magazines if you prefer them.

Trigger duty falls to a TriggerTech unit, which uses a frictionless release mechanism that breaks with essentially no creep. The bolt is spiral fluted and wears an enlarged aluminum knob for fast, positive cycling.

Why 7mm Backcountry

7mm Backcountry uses a steel alloy case that tolerates far higher chamber pressure than brass, and that pressure is what lets a 16-inch barrel produce velocity a conventional cartridge needs a much longer tube to reach. It was built specifically so hunters would stop paying a ballistic penalty for a short, suppressed rifle.

For a hunter the appeal is obvious. A compact, suppressor-friendly rifle that gives up little ballistically is a genuinely new option, and it is especially welcome in timber, in a saddle scabbard, or strapped to a pack.

Optics and Setup

Because the receiver takes standard Remington 700 bases, mounting glass is straightforward and the aftermarket is enormous. A 3-15x or 4-16x scope in the 20 ounce range keeps the finished rifle near seven pounds scoped, which is the whole point of buying a rifle this light to begin with.

Why Buyers Choose It

Carbon fiber done properly is expensive, and Christensen has been building carbon-wrapped barrels longer than almost anyone. The FFT stock, spot bedding and TriggerTech trigger are the reason the sub-MOA guarantee holds up on a rifle this light.

The Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry also handles differently than a long-barreled magnum. It comes up faster, swings easier in brush, and stays balanced with a can threaded on, which is not something you can say about a 24-inch magnum.

Who Should Buy It

The Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry suits the backcountry hunter who wants magnum reach without magnum length or weight, the suppressor user who is tired of an unwieldy overall package, and anyone hunting elk or mule deer in country where the walk in matters as much as the shot.
