Description

Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ 50 round box of range ammunition

Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ is the plain green box that has been feeding range sessions for decades. Fifty rounds of American-made 115 grain full metal jacket at 1,145 fps, loaded on reloadable brass with non-corrosive primers, and priced to be shot rather than admired.

What You Get in a Box of Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ

UMC stands for Union Metallic Cartridge, a name Remington has used on practice ammunition since the nineteenth century. The modern version is loaded in Lonoke, Arkansas on factory-fresh brass with Remington Kleanbore primers, which are non-corrosive and burn clean enough that a range session does not turn into a scrubbing session.

The 115 grain full metal jacket is the standard 9mm practice weight. It is what most factory ballistics charts are built around, it cycles reliably in nearly every pistol chambered for the cartridge, and it is the cheapest way to put rounds downrange without dropping to steel case.

Cases are boxer primed reloadable brass. If you load your own, a box of Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ is also fifty pieces of usable brass, which quietly changes the real cost per round.

Specifications and Ballistics

Chattanooga Shooting Supplies lists this load at 1,145 fps and 335 ft-lbs, and the arithmetic checks out for a 115 grain bullet at that velocity. Expect close to the published figure from a four or five inch barrel and somewhat less from a micro-compact, which is normal for any 9mm load.

That puts it in standard pressure territory, which matters if your pistol is not rated for +P or if you simply prefer a softer impulse for high volume practice.

A note on the box count. Fifty rounds is the classic handgun box, and it is the right size if you are sighting in a new pistol or testing a magazine. If you shoot a class or a match, the 100 and 250 round packs and the bulk cases all cost meaningfully less per round.

Field Notes

This is training ammunition, not defensive ammunition. Full metal jacket does not expand, so it over-penetrates by defensive standards. Keep a jacketed hollow point load in the carry gun and shoot Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ to learn how the gun behaves.

Point of impact is worth checking if you carry a heavier bullet. A 115 grain practice load and a 147 grain carry load will not always print to the same place at twenty-five yards, and the difference is worth knowing before it matters.

If you shoot enough that fifty rounds disappears in an afternoon, the same load is stocked in larger quantities and costs less per round in bulk packaging.

Shooting more of it? The same load comes in a 100 round value pack and a 1,000 round bulk case. For carry, the 115gr jacketed hollow point is the defensive counterpart. Company and load information is published by Remington Ammunition.

For anyone who shoots 9mm regularly and wants clean, reloadable American practice ammunition, Remington UMC 9mm 115gr FMJ is a dependable default. MAG5 Firearms stocks it in the 50 round box, manufacturer item 23728.
