Description
The Proof Research Ascension is a mountain rifle built without the usual compromise between weight and accuracy. A Zermatt Arms titanium action sits in a carbon fiber Monte Carlo stock, the barrel is Proof’s patented carbon-fiber-wrapped PXT in a Sendero contour, and the whole rifle is test fired and backed by a sub half-MOA accuracy guarantee. This configuration is chambered in 300 PRC with a 22 inch barrel and finished in black jungle camo.
The Carbon Fiber Barrel
The barrel is what Proof Research is known for, and it is the reason the Ascension weighs what it does. A steel core is wrapped in aerospace-grade carbon fiber, which produces a barrel that is substantially lighter than an equivalent steel profile while dissipating heat faster and resisting the point-of-impact shift that thin steel barrels show as they warm. This one is a Sendero contour cut to 22 inches with a 1:9 twist, threaded 5/8-24 at the muzzle and supplied with a thread protector.
A 1:9 twist in 300 PRC is set up for the heavy, high-BC bullets the cartridge was designed around. At 22 inches the rifle gives up some velocity to a longer tube, and gets back a rifle that handles on steep ground.

Why it is worth considering
- Patented carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel that cuts weight and sheds heat faster than steel
- Zermatt Arms titanium action, among the most rigid available at this weight
- Sub half-MOA accuracy guarantee, with every rifle test fired before it ships
- Monte Carlo carbon stock with raised comb and grip, built for modern optic heights
- TriggerTech trigger and BDL magazine as standard, not upgrades
- 300 PRC with a 1:9 twist, matched to the heavy high-BC bullets the cartridge was designed for
Who it suits
The Proof Research Ascension is for the hunter who carries a rifle further than most people would consider reasonable and still expects it to shoot half-MOA when it matters. It is not an inexpensive rifle and it does not pretend to be one. What it delivers for the money is a weight figure that a conventional precision rifle cannot approach without giving up the accuracy, which is exactly the trade that high-country hunting punishes.

Ammunition and Optics for the Proof Research Ascension
300 PRC was designed by Hornady around long, heavy, high-ballistic-coefficient bullets, and it rewards being fed accordingly. Factory match loads in the 212 to 225 grain range are where this cartridge does its best work, and the 1:9 twist in this barrel is cut to stabilise them. Hunting loads in the 190 to 212 grain range cover everything on the continent. Full specifications and the current configuration list are published by the manufacturer at Proof Research.
A rifle at this level deserves a mount that matches it. The split-rail base takes standard Picatinny rings, and the raised comb on the Proof Research Ascension stock is cut for the scope heights a 50mm or larger objective demands.
