PPU 223 Rem 55gr SP – Accurate Varmint Ammo

Description

The PPU 223 Rem 55gr SP load, item PP223S, is a 20 round box of 223 Remington ammunition from Prvi Partizan, loaded with a 55 grain soft point bullet in a boxer-primed, reloadable brass case.

PPU 223 Rem 55gr SP Overview

Prvi Partizan, better known as PPU, is one of the oldest ammunition makers in Europe, with roots going back to 1928 in Uzice, Serbia. PPU is known for producing quality ammunition in a huge range of calibers, including many older and less common cartridges that other makers have dropped. Shooters value PPU for consistent performance, reloadable brass cases and fair prices, which is why it is a favorite for everything from hunting to keeping vintage rifles and pistols shooting.

Bullet Design

A soft point bullet has a copper jacket with exposed lead at the tip. On impact the lead nose expands, creating a wide wound channel while the jacket helps hold the bullet together for penetration. Soft points are a traditional, dependable choice for hunting medium game.

Intended Use

This load is well suited to varmints and predators such as prairie dogs, groundhogs and coyotes, where a fast, expanding bullet gives quick, humane results. It also works for target shooting at longer range. Many shooters use it on ground squirrels and other small varmints where long shots are common.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for firearms chambered in 223 Remington. Always check the caliber marking on your barrel or slide before loading. It can also be fired in firearms chambered for 5.56 NATO, but 5.56 NATO ammunition should not be fired in a firearm marked only for 223 Remington.

Brass Cases

PPU loads this ammunition in boxer-primed brass cases. Brass extracts reliably, resists corrosion and can be reloaded, which makes PPU a popular choice with handloaders who want quality cases for less common calibers.

Recoil and Shootability

Recoil is very light, which makes long range sessions comfortable. Practice with the load you plan to use so you know where it prints and how it handles.

Quality and Consistency

PPU manufactures its own cases, bullets and primers, which gives the company control over consistency from lot to lot. Its ammunition is supplied to militaries and police forces as well as civilian shooters around the world, and the same production standards apply to its sporting loads. That consistency is a big reason PPU has earned a strong following among hunters, target shooters and collectors.

Choosing a Load

Pick ammunition based on what you plan to do. Full metal jacket and lead loads are for practice and targets, hollow points are for defense, and soft points are for hunting. Within each type, consider bullet weight: lighter bullets fly faster and flatter, while heavier bullets carry more momentum and penetrate deeper.

Practice and Testing

Shoot a few groups with this load to learn where it prints in your firearm, and check function before you rely on it for hunting or protection. Different loads can print to different points of aim, so confirm your zero whenever you change ammunition.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original boxes, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds before loading, and set aside any with dents, loose bullets or corrosion.
