Description
The Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge slug is one of the heaviest factory shotgun projectiles offered in a 2-3/4 inch hull. Each shell drives a 515 grain FMJ slug to a listed 1,520 feet per second, which works out to roughly 2,642 foot-pounds at the muzzle. That is well past what a standard one ounce rifled slug produces, and it does so from an ordinary smoothbore barrel with no rifled tube or specialty choke required.

What Sets the Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge Slug Apart
Most shotgun slugs are soft lead, either a hollow based Foster type meant to squeeze through a choke or a sabot bullet built for a rifled barrel. The Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge slug goes a different direction. It uses a copper jacketed slug body over a heavy core so the projectile stays intact instead of upsetting and flattening on impact. That is the entire design brief here. This is a penetration round rather than an expansion round, and it should be chosen with that in mind.
Because the 515 grain FMJ slug is jacketed rather than bare lead, it resists deformation when it meets sheet steel, cinder block, laminated glass or a vehicle body. Phoenix Rising markets the Terminator slug as extreme defense for any situation, and the honest version of that claim is narrower. It is a barrier round. If the problem is something solid between you and the target, this Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge slug is built for exactly that job.
Phoenix Rising builds a small line of unconventional 12 gauge defensive shells and the Terminator sits at the serious end of it. Where the Annihilator is a hollow point style expander and the Sledge Hammer is a large hollow point, the Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge shell is the one designed to hold together. If you already stock the rest of the line, this is the barrier option in the set.
Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge Specifications
Specifications below come from Phoenix Rising. One discrepancy is worth knowing before you order. The manufacturer sells this load in a five round pack, while the UPC stocked here, 797053002227, part number PR12TERM, is catalogued by distributors as a three round pack. We list it the way it ships to us.
A 515 grain projectile at 1,520 fps is a great deal of shotgun. Recoil from this round is heavier than a standard slug and considerably heavier than buckshot. In a lightweight pump or a short barrelled defensive gun it is genuinely punishing. Fire a few Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge rounds for familiarity, then keep the rest for the role they are meant for.
Point of impact will not match your buckshot zero. Any heavy slug lands somewhere different from a shot load, so if you keep one of these shells in the magazine behind buckshot, confirm where it prints at the distance you actually care about before you trust it.

Honest Limits of the Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge Load
Overpenetration is the obvious caveat. A copper jacketed slug designed to defeat barriers will also defeat interior walls and keep going. For use inside a normal residential home, buckshot remains the more defensible choice for most people. The Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge slug makes far more sense as a truck gun load, a farm or ranch load, or a barrier round for anyone whose threat picture includes something solid.
Cost per round is high. At three rounds to a pack this is not a load you will practise with, and that matters, because a defensive load you have never fired is a load you do not really know. Buy one pack to verify function and point of impact in your specific gun, then buy the rest to store. Check your barrel as well. This 12 gauge slug is intended for smoothbores, and heavy slugs should not be fired through extra full, turkey or ported chokes.
Legality varies. Some states and counties restrict slugs for hunting and a few restrict certain projectile constructions outright. Confirm your local rules before ordering. MAG5 Firearms ships ammunition only where it is lawful to receive it.
For hunters, a 515 grain FMJ slug is a poor deer round precisely because it is built not to expand. If you are hunting, buy an expanding slug instead. The Terminator slug earns its place where penetration through hard cover is the priority, and in that narrow role the Phoenix Rising Terminator 12 Gauge shell does something very few factory shotshells manage. Every pack ships from our licensed inventory in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and adult signature is required on delivery.
