Description
The NovX Pentagon 300 Blackout 125gr SCHP load, item 300BLK125CP, is a 20 round box of 300 AAC Blackout ammunition from NovX Ammunition, loaded with a 125 grain solid copper hollow point rated at 2080 fps and 1201 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.
NovX Pentagon 300 Blackout 125gr SCHP Overview
Pentagon is NovX’s defensive line, built around a lead-free solid copper hollow point. NovX designed the bullet to open into petals and roughly double its diameter as it penetrates soft tissue, giving solid terminal performance at the close to moderate ranges where most defensive encounters happen. The cartridge also uses NovX’s own case design, which sets it apart from conventional brass ammunition.
Bullet Design
The 125 grain bullet is a single piece of copper with a hollow nose. Because there is no lead core, there is no jacket to separate, and the bullet tends to hold its weight as it opens. Solid copper bullets are longer than lead-core bullets of the same weight, so they are well suited to the 300 Blackout, which was designed around heavier 30 caliber bullets in a compact case.
Case Design
NovX loads Pentagon in proprietary two-piece steel cases. The company describes them as strong, lightweight and low friction, and says they help keep the chamber and barrel cleaner than conventional cases. They are not intended for reloading.
Firearm Compatibility
This ammunition is made for rifles and pistols chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, also called 300 BLK or 7.62x35mm, including AR-15 rifles and pistols with 300 Blackout barrels. Never fire it in a firearm chambered for 300 Win Mag, 300 WSM or 5.56 NATO. Mixing 300 Blackout and 5.56 ammunition is a known hazard, so keep them clearly separated.
Intended Use
The 300 Blackout is popular for home defense and compact carbines because it delivers strong performance from short barrels and works well with suppressors. At 2080 fps this load is supersonic, so expect a crack even when suppressed. The lead-free copper bullet also makes it an option where lead-free ammunition is preferred.
Recoil and Shootability
Recoil from the 300 Blackout is mild in a carbine, similar to or slightly more than a 5.56 load, which makes follow-up shots quick. Confirm reliable cycling in your rifle, especially if you run a suppressor or a short pistol-length gas system.
Lead-Free Benefits
A solid copper bullet keeps lead out of the projectile, which reduces lead exposure on indoor and outdoor ranges and meets lead-free requirements in some hunting areas. Copper bullets also tend to hold together and retain weight, so their performance stays consistent through common barriers such as heavy clothing.
Practice and Testing
Run at least a box through your rifle before relying on it. Confirm feeding from full magazines, check where it prints at typical home defense and carbine distances, and note any change in point of impact from your practice ammunition.
Storage and Care
Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original boxes, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds before loading, and set aside any with dents, loose bullets or corrosion.
