How the Pug Works

The Pug D uses the same proven single-action, removable-cylinder system as NAA’s other mini-revolvers. You cock the hammer for each shot, and to reload you remove the cylinder pin, take the cylinder out, swap cartridges and put it back. Safety notches between the chambers give the hammer a place to rest for carry. The heavier barrel shroud and the full rubber grip make the Pug noticeably easier to hold and aim than the slim wood-gripped minis.

XS White Dot and the Heavy Barrel

The oversized white dot is easy to see in normal light and makes the Pug faster to aim than the slim minis with their tiny blades. The heavy barrel profile adds a bit of mass to dampen recoil. Because it is unported, blast goes forward rather than up, which some owners prefer for shooting from close retention positions.

Ammunition

The Pug D is chambered only for 22 WMR (22 Magnum). Never fire 22 LR, 22 Short or 22 WRF in it. Magnum rimfire costs more per round than 22 LR and supply can be uneven, so buy a few boxes of the load you trust and test it in your revolver. Short barrels give up a lot of the velocity printed on the box, and loads designed for short barrels tend to expand more reliably than rifle-oriented ammunition.

Living With a Pug

Rimfire ignition is less certain than centerfire, which is one more reason to test your carry ammunition. Carry it in a pocket holster that keeps it upright and covers the trigger area.

The ported Pug DP and Pug TP trade a little extra flash for slightly flatter shooting. If you want the cleanest, simplest Pug and plan to shoot it mainly at very close range, this unported white dot model is the classic choice and usually the easiest to find.
