NobelSport 20ga Heavy Game 6 Shot 1 oz – Reliable 25 Round Box

Description

NobelSport 20ga Heavy Game 6 Shot is probably the most useful shell in the NobelSport high velocity 20 gauge range. One ounce of lead number 6 at 1330 fps, in a 2 3/4 inch hull. Number 6 is the size most upland hunters would pick if they could only carry one, and the extra velocity shortens the lead on birds that appear and vanish in close cover. Twenty five rounds to the box.

Why Number 6 Is the Default

Number 6 sits at the point where pellet count and pellet energy balance for most upland birds. A one ounce charge holds enough pellets to give an even pattern on a close flush, and each pellet still carries enough energy to kill a pheasant cleanly out to about thirty five yards. That combination is why 6 has been the standard American upland size for a century.

The high velocity part matters most in thick cover. At 1330 fps the shot string reaches a bird sooner, which shortens the lead you have to give a crosser and reduces the amount of guessing required when a grouse flushes and is behind a tree two seconds later. In open country over a pointing dog, where you have time to mount and swing, the advantage narrows considerably.

Payload is the same one ounce as the standard Heavy Game line. NobelSport simply loaded it faster rather than adding shot, which keeps the shell suitable for lighter 20 gauge guns while making it hit a little harder at distance. That is the whole design brief behind this one ounce 20 gauge load.

NobelSport 20ga Heavy Game 6 Shot Specifications

NobelSport is an Italian manufacturer with a long history in shotshell production. This is a standard 2 3/4 inch shell suitable for any 20 gauge chambered 2 3/4 inch or longer, and because it is lead shot it is safe in fixed choke guns not rated for steel.

Honest Notes on High Velocity Loads

High velocity is not free. Pushing shot faster deforms slightly more of it on setback, which can open patterns a little relative to a slower shell of the same payload. If your birds hold for a dog and get up at twenty yards, a standard 1200 fps load often patterns better and recoils less. Buy NobelSport 20ga Heavy Game 6 Shot for the cover where shots come fast, not because faster sounds better.

Recoil in a light 20 gauge is real. One ounce at 1330 fps out of a six pound gun carried all day adds up, and a hunter who has started flinching by the third field misses birds a milder shell would have killed. If you notice your shooting falling off late in the day, the shell is the first thing to look at.

Choke selection matters more than most people allow. Number 6 lead patterns fairly openly, and improved cylinder or modified is usually right for walk up birds. Full choke with this load produces a pattern tight enough to miss with at twenty yards.

Lead restrictions apply on a growing number of public properties, including all federal waterfowl production areas even for upland hunting. Check the regulations for the specific ground you are hunting before filling a vest.

The same HV line is stocked in number 5 for late season roosters and number 8 for smaller birds. NobelSport publishes its catalogue on the NobelSport Ammunition website.
