Description
The Modern Materiel MODMAT Patrol Pistol is the Gen4 AR-15 pistol from Modern Materiel of New Jersey, built from domestic parts and finished in one of six house Cerakote colors. It is the pistol cousin of the company’s MODMAT SBF, reintroduced in 2023 once supply chain shortages eased so the full parts list could return.

Modern Materiel MODMAT Patrol Pistol Overview
It runs an 11.75 inch carbine-length barrel machined from 4150 chrome moly with M4 feed ramps, a 1:8 twist and H&M Blacknitride+ finish, topped with an A2 flash hider. A pinned .750 inch low-profile gas block feeds a domestic 8620 M16 carrier with a 9310 bolt. The 10.75 inch Duty Ready Gen4 handguard has a full top rail and M-LOK slots, and the pistol measures 27-3/8 inches long and weighs 5 lbs 3.2 oz. The stabilizing brace in the photos is not included.
Upgraded Parts List
Modern Materiel builds the Patrol Pistol with a Radian Raptor SL ambidextrous charging handle, a Radian Talon ambidextrous selector, a HIPERFIRE enhanced trigger with about a 5.5 lb pull, a Sprinco tactical buffer spring, B5 Systems Type 22 grip and trigger guard, and Slate Black Industries Slate panels and Slate Stop. The forged 7075-T6 upper has a forward assist and brass deflector, and the forged lower has a textured magwell.

Six Cerakote Colors
Modern Materiel offers the Patrol Pistol in Blackened Cobalt, Slate Grey, Bloodshot Bronze, Patriot Brown, Sniper Green and Tackleberry Blue. Our listing shows several of them; please confirm the color you want with us before ordering, since availability varies by color.
Brace and Stock Rules
The pistol ships with a receiver extension and QD endplate but no brace. ATF’s brace rule was vacated by federal courts in 2024, yet brace law remains unsettled, and adding a shoulder stock to a barrel under 16 inches makes a short-barreled rifle that requires NFA registration. Keep up with current rules before you add rear support.

Shooting It
A 5.56 AR pistol with an 11.75 inch barrel is loud and has a large muzzle flash; ear protection is not optional, especially indoors. The mid-length handguard gives room for a light and a vertical grip where legal, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes the common 55 to 77 grain bullets.
Made in New Jersey
Every MODMAT is assembled in New Jersey from domestic parts and Modern Materiel states it is multi-state and federally compliant when purchased as a pistol. It ships with one Magpul magazine.
State Laws and Ownership
AR pistols are banned or heavily restricted in California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington, Delaware and some cities, and many of those states also limit magazine capacity. Confirm your state allows this configuration before you order.
