Description

Migra Field Lite 12ga 1oz Stacked is Migra Field Lite in its lightest 12 gauge form, a 2 3/4 inch high brass hull carrying one ounce of lead with number 7.5 pellets stacked over number 9. It is the first lead load the company stacked specifically for small fair feathered fowl, and it is aimed squarely at quail, dove, woodcock and early season grouse rather than at long tailed roosters.

Why a Lighter Stacked Load Makes Sense
Small birds do not need pellet energy, they need pellet count and an even pattern. One ounce of number 9 shot holds an enormous number of pellets, which is exactly what you want on a dove crossing at twenty five yards or a quail breaking out of grass at fifteen. The problem with pure number 9 is that it runs out of steam quickly, and a bird that flushes wide gets away.
Stacking number 7.5 over number 9 addresses that without going to a heavier payload. The larger pellets carry further and hit harder on the shots that stretch out, while the number 9 fills the pattern for everything close. As a high brass upland load it gives you a single shell that covers most of a walk up day instead of asking you to guess which box to fill your vest from.
The one ounce payload is the other half of the design. Lighter shot charges mean noticeably less recoil, which matters when you fire forty shells at doves in an afternoon or when you are carrying a light twenty eight inch over and under. Field Lite is not trying to be the heaviest load available. It is trying to be the one you shoot well on the fiftieth bird of the day.
Migra Field Lite 12ga 1oz Stacked Specifications
Migra publishes 12 gauge Field Lite velocities between 1200 and 1350 fps depending on the specific load. The 2 3/4 inch hull fits any 12 gauge chambered 2 3/4 inch or longer, and because this is lead shot it can be fired safely through older fixed choke guns that are not rated for steel.

Honest Notes on Field Lite
Know what this load is not. One ounce of number 7.5 and number 9 is a small bird proposition. It is not a pheasant load, it is not a duck load, and it should not be pointed at anything that needs a pellet to break bone at forty yards. Migra builds heavier stacked shells for that work and this one is deliberately not it.
Choke selection is worth thinking about. Small shot patterns densely, and an improved cylinder or skeet choke is usually plenty for quail and dove inside thirty yards. Reaching for a full choke with Migra Field Lite 12ga 1oz Stacked loads tends to produce patterns tight enough to miss with rather than tight enough to help.
Lead restrictions apply here as much as anywhere. A number of state wildlife areas and all federal waterfowl production areas require non toxic shot regardless of what you are hunting, and dove fields on public ground are a common place people get caught out. Check the regulations for the specific property before you fill a vest.
Finally, the price. Stacked shells cost more than a plain one ounce target load, and if your birds all flush inside twenty yards a box of number 8 promotional shells will kill them just as well. The premium buys you the shots that stretch out, so it is worth it if your ground produces those and hard to justify if it does not.
For late season roosters step up to the Staxd Pheasant 4 over 6 high brass load, and the Ultimate Field 6 over 8 sits between the two. Full line details are on the Migra Field Lite page.
Migra Field Lite 12ga 1oz Stacked suits dove hunters, quail hunters over pointing dogs, woodcock chasers and anyone carrying a light 12 gauge who wants pattern density without a punishing shell.
