Description
The Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA is item 183969, the highest-magnification Mark 4HD we stock. It is a first focal plane scope on a 34 mm tube, and it trades adjustment range for magnification in a way worth understanding before you buy.
What the Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA gives, and what it gives up
Thirty-two power behind a 56 mm objective is the most magnification in the line. At that level you are reading mirage and calling your own impacts on small targets.
The cost is adjustment range, and it is substantial. This scope publishes 70 MOA of total elevation and 45 MOA of windage. The 6-24×52 in the same family publishes 125 MOA and 65 MOA. So the bigger-magnification scope has noticeably less dial to work with.
That matters if you shoot past the point where 70 MOA runs out. Plan on a canted base if you intend to dial a long way, and centre your zero carefully because 45 MOA of windage is not generous.
Reticle and focal plane
The PR2-MOA reticle is graduated in minutes and the M1C3 turret clicks in 1/4 MOA, so reticle and dial agree and a correction read off the glass is dialled without conversion.
It is a first focal plane scope, so those subtensions are true at every magnification. At 8x the reticle is fine; at 32x it is substantial. There is no illumination and no battery in this scope.
Field of view is 13.1 feet at 8x and 3.4 feet at 32x, per 100 yards. That is a narrow picture even at the bottom of the range, which is the other thing high magnification costs you.
Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA turrets and parallax
Elevation is the M1C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is a zero-lock turret. Elevation moves 25 MOA per revolution and windage 24.
The manufacturer does not publish a figure for the elevation dial travel limit on the Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA; the row reads Total Scope Travel instead of a number. Take that as the full 70 MOA being available on the dial rather than as a published limit.
Parallax adjusts by side focus down to a 25 yard minimum. Note that the same page also carries a row reading Precision Side Focus No, which contradicts both the side focus row and the description. We report it rather than resolve it.
Size and mounting
The Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA weighs 30 ounces and measures 15.6 inches, with 6.8 inches of mounting space split 2.5 inches front and 2.1 rear. The objective section is 5.6 inches long with a 2.5 inch bell, so plan for tall rings.
One published figure runs against every sibling: eye relief is listed at 4.2 inches at low magnification and 3.9 at high. Every other scope in the range increases as you wind the power up. Mount it so that 3.9 inches is what you actually have at 32x.
Honest notes
This is a specialist optic. Between the 70 MOA of elevation, the 13.1 foot field of view at the bottom end and the 30 ounce weight, it is built for a bench, a bipod or an F-class line rather than for general shooting.
No BDC dial is included and the scope is not Custom Dial System compatible. Custom BDC dial compatibility is not published for this item either, so ask before planning on a dial.
No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published. Retail listings quote all three anyway. We print what the manufacturer prints.
Who this scope suits
Benchrest and F-class shooters, varmint hunters who spend their day at magnification, and anyone in MOA who needs to see small impacts. The Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32×56 PR2-MOA is waterproof, fogproof and backed by the lifetime guarantee.
Skip it if you need elevation range more than magnification, if you shoot anything that moves quickly, or if you work in mils.
