Description
The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR3-MIL is item 183824. Five scopes in this shop share the Mark 4HD 6-24×52 body, and this one is separated from its nearest sibling by the reticle and nothing else at all.
Five 6-24×52 scopes, and where this one sits
Against item 183823, the PR2-MIL version, every published figure is identical: same M5C3 turret, same 0.1 MIL clicks, same 36 MIL of elevation, same 27.5 ounces, same dimensions. The reticle is the only difference.
Against item 183822 you are also changing measurement systems, because that one is the M1C3 in 1/4 MOA with a PR2-MOA reticle. Items 188483 and 188484 are the illuminated versions of those two, half an ounce lighter as Leupold publishes them.
So the question here is narrow and answerable: do you want the PR3 grid or the PR2 grid. Everything else about the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR3-MIL is settled by that body.
What PR3-MIL gives you
PR3 is the denser of the two patterns, with more holdover and wind references packed into the tree. If you engage at speed by holding rather than dialling, the extra graduations are the point of it.
If you dial elevation for every shot and only hold for wind, PR2 gives you a cleaner picture for the same money. Be honest about which of those you actually do before you choose.
It is a first focal plane reticle, so every reference is true at every magnification. It is not illuminated and there is no battery in the scope, so at 6x in failing light a dense grid takes some finding.
Turrets, travel and parallax
Elevation is the M5C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is a zero-lock turret. Clicks are 0.1 MIL on both axes, matching the mil reticle, so what you read is what you dial.
Total elevation travel is 36 MIL, or 125 MOA, at 10 MIL per revolution with a 28.7 MIL dial travel limit. Windage gives 18 MIL, or 65 MOA, also at 10 MIL per turn.
That is half the range in windage that you have in elevation. Mount the scope level and centre the zero rather than spending windage travel correcting a base that is not square. Parallax is precision side focus down to a 25 yard minimum.
Glass and dimensions
Magnification runs 6x to 24x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34 mm main tube. Eye relief is 3.8 inches at the bottom and 4.0 at the top. Field of view is 17.3 feet at 6x and 4.7 feet at 24x, per 100 yards.
The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR3-MIL weighs 27.5 ounces and measures 14.6 inches, with 6.3 inches of mounting space split 1.9 front and 2.1 rear, on a 5.1 inch objective section with a 2.4 inch bell.
Honest notes
Useful cross-check, if you have been reading our other Mark 4HD pages: this scope publishes 0.1 MIL clicks on both axes. The illuminated 188484, which is otherwise the same M5C3 mil scope, publishes 0.1 MIL elevation and 1/4 MOA windage. That strengthens the case that 188484s windage row is a manufacturer data error rather than a real difference.
No BDC dial is included and the scope is not Custom Dial System compatible, though the turret is published as custom BDC dial compatible. Ask Leupold before planning on a yardage dial.
At 27.5 ounces plus 34 mm rings this is a bipod-and-bag optic. No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published for it, so we print none of the three.
Who this scope suits
Precision rifle competitors working in mils who hold rather than dial, and anyone who has already decided the PR3 grid is the pattern they read fastest. The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR3-MIL is waterproof, fogproof and backed by the lifetime guarantee.
Skip it if you think in MOA, if you need illumination, or if the simpler PR2 pattern suits how you actually shoot.
