Description
The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MOA is item 183822, the minute-of-angle half of a pair of 6-24×52 scopes we stock. The other is item 183823 in MIL. They are not interchangeable, and picking the wrong one is a real problem rather than a preference.
What the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MOA gives a MOA shooter
The PR2-MOA reticle is graduated in minutes and the M1C3 turret clicks in 1/4 MOA. Reticle and turret speak the same language, so a correction you read off the glass is a number you dial without converting anything.
It is a first focal plane scope, which means the MOA subtensions stay true across the whole magnification range. A 6 MOA hold is 6 MOA at 10x and at 24x. The cost is a fine-looking reticle at 6x, and this model is not illuminated.
There is no battery in the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MOA. In practice that means one fewer failure point and no help at all when the light goes.
Read this before you choose between the two
Beyond reticle units, the turrets differ. This one uses the M1C3 with 1/4 MOA clicks, 25 MOA per revolution and a 71.5 MOA dial travel limit. The MIL version uses the M5C3 with 0.1 MIL clicks, 10 MIL per revolution and a 28.7 MIL limit, which works out to about 98 MOA.
So despite both scopes carrying the same 125 MOA of internal range, this one reaches noticeably less dialable elevation before you run out of dial. If you shoot to the far edge of that range, that is worth knowing up front.
One more oddity, published as-is: elevation moves 25 MOA per revolution while windage moves 24, on the same turret system. We are not smoothing that to a rounder pair of numbers.
Glass, parallax and dimensions
Magnification runs 6x to 24x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34 mm main tube. Eye relief is 3.8 inches at the bottom and 4.0 at the top. Field of view is 17.3 feet at 6x and 4.7 feet at 24x, per 100 yards.
Parallax is adjustable side focus down to 25 yards, which is close enough to make the scope useful for rimfire practice as well as centrefire work. Windage is a zero-lock turret; elevation locks and carries a revolution indicator.
The scope weighs 27.5 ounces and measures 14.6 inches with 6.3 inches of mounting space, 1.9 front and 2.1 rear. Leupold publishes those same dimensions for the 4.5-18×52 in this family, so it is a shared chassis.
Honest notes on the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MOA
The manufacturer marks this model Precision Side Focus: No while marking the MIL version Yes, even though both print the same side focus and the same 25 yard minimum. That may be a deliberate distinction between the turret families or a data entry artefact. We report it rather than resolve it.
No BDC dial is included and this model is not Custom Dial System compatible. There is no yardage dial to order later. You dial in MOA or you hold.
At 27.5 ounces plus 34 mm rings, this is a bipod-and-bag scope rather than a carry scope. No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published for it, so we print none of the three.
Who this scope suits
Shooters who were raised on minutes and see no reason to retrain, first focal plane users who want true holds at any power, and anyone building a precision rifle around MOA. The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MOA is waterproof, fogproof and backed by the lifetime guarantee.
Skip it if you work in MIL, if you need illumination, or if you want the extra dialable elevation of the M5C3 version.
