Description
The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MIL is item 183823. The store also carries what looks like the same scope with a PR2-MOA reticle. It is not the same scope, and the reticle is the smallest of the differences.
Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MIL versus the MOA version
This one uses the M5C3 elevation turret and 0.1 MIL clicks. Item 183822 uses the M1C3 turret and 1/4 MOA clicks. Those are different dials with different graduations, and you cannot convert one into the other.
The dialable range differs too. This scope gives 10 MIL per revolution with a 28.7 MIL dial travel limit. The MOA version gives 25 MOA per revolution and stops at 71.5 MOA, which is about 20.8 MIL, so it reaches noticeably less usable elevation despite both scopes carrying the same 125 MOA of internal range.
If you range, call wind and correct in milliradians, this is the version to buy. If you think in minutes, buy the other one. Mixing your reticle units and your turret units is how people miss.
Reticle and focal plane
The PR2-MIL is a first focal plane reticle. The subtensions grow and shrink with magnification, so a 1.2 MIL hold is 1.2 MIL at 8x and at 24x. That is the entire reason to buy a first focal plane scope.
It is not illuminated and there is no battery. At 6x the reticle is fine, which is the standing trade with first focal plane glass: true holds at every power, less visible at the bottom of the range in poor light.
Turrets, parallax and travel
Elevation on the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MIL is the M5C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is a zero-lock turret. Total elevation is 125 MOA, or 36 MIL, and windage is 65 MOA, or 18 MIL, at 10 MIL per revolution.
Note the asymmetry. You have twice the elevation range you have windage. Mount it level and get your zero centred rather than spending windage travel on a crooked base.
Parallax is adjustable side focus with a 25 yard minimum, which is close enough for rimfire training work as well as centrefire distance.
Glass and dimensions
Magnification runs 6x to 24x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34mm main tube. Eye relief is 3.8 inches at the bottom and 4.0 at the top. Field of view is 17.3 feet at 6x and 4.7 feet at 24x, per 100 yards.
The scope weighs 27.5 ounces and measures 14.6 inches, with 6.3 inches of mounting space split 1.9 front and 2.1 rear. Leupold publishes those same body dimensions for the 4.5-18×52 in this family, so it is a shared chassis.
Honest notes on the Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MIL
One published inconsistency is worth knowing. The manufacturer marks this model Precision Side Focus: Yes, and marks the mechanically comparable M1C3 scopes Precision Side Focus: No, while giving all of them the same side focus and the same 25 yard minimum. Whether that is a deliberate distinction or a data entry artefact is not something we can settle, so we report it rather than resolve it.
No BDC dial is included and this model is not Custom Dial System compatible. If you were planning to order a yardage dial later, that is not on the menu here. You dial in MIL or you hold.
At 27.5 ounces plus 34 mm rings this is a heavy setup. It belongs on a rifle shot from a bipod or a bag. No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published for it, so we print none.
Who this scope suits
Precision rifle shooters working in MIL, long-range hunters who correct rather than guess, and anyone who wants first focal plane holds at every magnification. The Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24×52 PR2-MIL is covered by the Leupold lifetime guarantee.
Skip it if you think in MOA, if you need illumination for low light, or if you want a custom yardage dial.
