Description

Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm coyote PVD double stack 1911 right side

Kimber built the 2K11 Target for shooters who want to dial their irons rather than accept them, and the Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm is that gun wearing the warmest finish in the range. Brushed polish coyote PVD on the flats, a black DLC bull barrel through the ejection port and a matte frame underneath. Mechanically it is a full size double stack 1911: five inch barrel, steel slide, steel sub frame and an aluminum grip module with a tapered magwell.

A Target Sighted Double Stack 1911

What makes a Target a Target is the rear unit. Instead of a fixed notch cut into the cover plate, this model carries a fully adjustable rear sight in a stainless plate, so windage and elevation can be tuned to a specific load. Paired with a TAG FiberLok 2 front sight and a five inch sight radius, that turns the gun from something you hold off with into something you zero properly.

The barrel is a DLC bull barrel, five inches, fluted and ramped. Bull profile means no bushing at the muzzle and a heavier mass out front, which steadies the gun between shots. DLC is a hard, low friction coating rather than a finish, so the barrel resists wear where it matters most.

Everything else is standard 2K11. The GT Match Grade trigger is an aluminum shoe breaking between three and four pounds with a short reset, the safeties are ambidextrous, the magwell is tapered and the guide rod comes out without tools. An accessory rail up front takes a light.

Finish, Optics And Configuration

The coyote PVD finish is what people notice first. Brushed polish flats in a warm bronze sit against the black DLC of the barrel and the matte frame, which is a more interesting combination than the usual black on black or stainless on black. PVD is a hard thin film process, so this is a wear surface rather than a paint job and it will not thin out at the holster contact points.

Optics mount through a plate rather than a dedicated mill. The cover plate that carries the adjustable rear sight lifts off and an RMR pattern adapter plate goes on in its place, which is included with the gun. A Trijicon RMR or SRO, or any optic on that footprint, mounts without gunsmithing. The optic itself is a separate purchase, and it is worth deciding early whether you want the dot or the adjustable irons, because the two share the same real estate.

Kimber offers the Target frame in several configurations, including full capacity and capacity restricted magazines, and in .45 ACP as well as 9mm. This part number is listed as the ten round configuration, so if you need the twenty round version check the part number before ordering.

Why Buyers Choose The Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm

Adjustable irons on a factory double stack 1911 are rare, and they are the reason to pick a Target over a standard 2K11. Being able to zero to a load rather than hold off for the life of the gun matters at distance and it matters in competition.

The bull barrel and the weight do the rest. A heavy five inch barrel on a steel framed gun in 9mm produces very little muzzle movement, which is exactly what a target or competition setup wants. The Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm shoots flatter than its size suggests.

And the finish earns its place. Coyote PVD over brushed flats is more distinctive than another black gun and it is a hard coating rather than a cosmetic one, so the Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm will look the same after a season of range use as it did in the case.

Who Should Buy The Kimber 2K11 Target Bronze 9mm

This is a range, target and competition pistol. Precision shooters get adjustable irons, action shooters get a flat shooting full size gun with a match trigger, and 1911 loyalists get familiar controls. It is large and heavy, so concealed carry shoppers should look at the KDS9c or Micro 9 families. Buyers in states without capacity limits may also prefer one of the full capacity Target part numbers instead of this one.
