Description
The Howa M1500 Mini Action 6mm ARC Black puts one of the most efficient modern cartridges into an action built to its exact size. Howa shortened the M1500 receiver and bolt throw to suit cartridges in the 5.56 and 7.62×39 length class, cutting weight and shortening lock time without giving up the accuracy the M1500 barrel is known for. What you get is a compact 22-inch bolt rifle that shoots well above its price bracket.
Why the Mini Action Matters
A standard short action is longer than a 6mm ARC needs, and that surplus length is dead weight and wasted bolt travel. The Mini Action receiver is roughly 12 percent shorter and about a pound lighter than a standard short action, so the rifle carries easily on a long walk in and cycles fast from behind the scope. The bolt throw is short enough to run without breaking your cheek weld.
Howa M1500 Mini Action 6mm ARC Black Barrel and Accuracy
The 22-inch black steel barrel is threaded at the muzzle for a brake or a suppressor and uses a 1:8 twist, which stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets that make the 6mm ARC worth shooting in the first place. Howa backs the rifle with a sub-MOA three-shot guarantee at 100 yards using premium factory ammunition, and the receiver is drilled and tapped so scope mounting is a simple job with common bases.
Stock, Trigger and Controls
The matte black HTI synthetic stock is pillar bedded and fitted with a recoil pad and sling swivel studs. Inside, a forged one-piece bolt with two locking lugs runs in a matte blued receiver, and a two-stage match trigger breaks cleanly enough that most owners never shop for a replacement. A three-position safety lets you unload with the striker blocked, and the firing pin removes without tools for cleaning.

What 6mm ARC Does Well
The 6mm ARC was designed to push heavy-for-caliber six-millimeter bullets at useful speed from short barrels while staying mild on the shoulder and easy on barrels. Factory loads in the 103- to 108-grain range stay supersonic well past 1,000 yards, and recoil is close to a .223 in a rifle of this weight. For deer-sized game inside sensible ranges, or for steel at distance, one box of ammunition covers a lot of ground.
Why Buyers Choose the Howa M1500 Mini Action 6mm ARC Black
At this price most rifles make you pick between an accurate barrel and decent everything else. Howa’s answer is a hammer-forged barrel, a real two-stage trigger and a pillar-bedded stock on a rifle that still leaves budget for glass. The matte black finish keeps it discreet in a blind or a truck, and the shortened action makes the whole package handle more like a carbine than a full-size hunting rifle.
Who Should Buy It
This rifle suits the hunter who wants one lightweight bolt gun for deer, hogs and predators without carrying a magnum, the shooter building a first precision rig on a budget, and anyone already loading 6mm ARC for an AR who wants a bolt gun that shares the same ammunition. It is easy to grow into as well: the receiver is drilled and tapped for common bases, the barrel is threaded for a can, and aftermarket chassis and stocks for the Mini Action are widely available.
