Why the Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA Uses a Large Dot
A 6 MOA dot covers six inches at 100 yards, which sounds imprecise until you remember what a carry pistol is actually for. Inside fifteen yards, under stress, with a two handed grip you may not get, the thing that matters is finding the dot fast. A bigger dot is found faster. That is the whole argument, and for most defensive shooters it is the right one.
If you shoot the same pistol at distance or in competition, the 2 MOA version of the Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA is the better choice and we stock that too. There is no wrong answer here, only a decision about what the gun is for.
Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA Enclosed Emitter
The emitter fires across a fully sealed tube rather than sitting exposed in an open channel. For a gun carried inside the waistband all day, that is the difference between a dot that is always there and one that lint, sweat or rain can blank out at the worst possible moment. It is the single most important thing about this sight.
The housing is 7075 T6 aluminium, black anodised, rated IPX8 for immersion and tested to 5000G of shock. The whole unit weighs 1.23 ounces and measures 1.63 by 1.07 by 0.95 inches, so it adds very little to a slimline carry pistol.
Unlike the 2 MOA EPS Carry, this version has no built in rear sight notch cut into the housing. If co witnessing with irons matters to you, that is the detail to check before ordering, because it is the one visible difference between the two beyond dot size.
Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA Footprint and Mounting
The Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA uses Holosun K footprint, and an RMSc to K adapter plate is supplied in the box. RMSc is the most common cut on slimline single stack and micro compact slides, so between the native footprint and that plate the sight covers most concealed carry pistols on the market. Check your slide cut before ordering if you are unsure.
Adjustment is 1.5 MOA per click with 30 MOA of travel in each direction. Coarser clicks than a rifle optic, which is correct for a carry gun: you zero it once at seven or ten yards and you are done, and the coarser detent is less likely to walk under recoil.
The Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA window measures 0.77 by 0.58 inches. That is small by rifle standards and exactly right on a slimline slide, where a larger window would overhang the sides and print through a cover garment.
What the Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA Does Not Have
The Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA has no solar panel and no selectable reticle, so the 6 MOA dot is all you get. No automatic brightness sensor, so you set the level yourself across eight daylight and four night vision settings. Shake Awake, auto off, brightness memory and a button lockout are all present. Power is a CR1620 rated at 50,000 hours on setting 6.
The Holosun EPS Carry Red 6 MOA runs a CR1620, a smaller cell than the CR1632 used in the full size EPS, which is the price of the slimmer housing. It is a common battery and easy to find, but it is worth keeping a spare in the safe rather than assuming the corner shop has one.
One correction worth publishing. Holosun own product page for this model carries a 6 MOA figure in its title and a 2 MOA figure in the specification table underneath. Barcode 810047072263 is the 6 MOA version. We have listed it as 6 MOA and told you about the discrepancy rather than quietly picking one.
