Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green Reticle and Window
The Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green reticle is a 2 MOA dot inside a 65 MOA circle, and you can run the dot alone, the circle alone or both together. The 65 MOA circle is deliberately large: close in it is a framing tool your eye finds without looking for it, and at distance you simply ignore it and shoot the 2 MOA dot.
The emitter is green at 540 nanometres, the wavelength human vision is most sensitive to. A green reticle reads brighter than red at the same power draw and separates better from brown and green backgrounds. On a solar assisted sight that efficiency is doing double duty, because less current drawn means more of the day running off the panel.
The viewing window measures 1.1 by 0.87 inches. Adjustment is 0.5 MOA per click with 50 MOA of travel in windage and elevation. Half MOA clicks are finer than most red dots offer and they matter on a rifle, where a 2 MOA dot is capable of holding a group tighter than a full MOA click can resolve.
Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green Solar and Battery
A solar panel on the hood powers the reticle in good light and takes load off the cell. The battery is a CR2032 rated at 50,000 hours, and there are twelve brightness settings, eight for daylight and four that work under night vision. Shake Awake sleeps the Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green when the rifle sits still and wakes it the instant it moves.
Between solar, Shake Awake and that runtime, this is not an optic you have to think about between seasons. There is also a brightness memory that holds your last setting and a button lockout so nothing gets nudged in a case.
One thing the Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green does not do is run on solar alone indefinitely. The panel assists the battery and extends its life; it does not replace it. If the cell is flat and you are indoors, the sight will not light up. Treat the panel as a range extender rather than a failsafe, and keep a spare CR2032 with the rifle.
Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green Housing and Durability
The housing is 7075 T6 aluminium with a hard anodised black finish, rated IPX8 for water immersion and tested to 1000G of shock. Because the emitter is fully enclosed, rain, snow, dust and brush cannot reach the LED. That is the failure mode that takes open reflex sights out of service in bad weather, and it is the main reason to choose an AEMS over a 507C style optic.
The enclosed housing is also why the Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green carries an IPX8 rating rather than the IP67 used across much of the Holosun line. IPX8 covers continuous immersion rather than a thirty minute dunk, which on a duck blind or a boat is a difference you might actually meet.
Weight and Mounting
Be realistic about weight. The optic body is 4.3 ounces and the supplied mount is 6.1 ounces, so you are adding over ten ounces to the top of the rifle. On a carbine that is acceptable; on a lightweight hunting rifle you will notice it. The mount is Picatinny with a 1.63 inch optical centre, lower third co witness height on a standard AR upper.
Overall dimensions are 2.2 by 1.76 by 2.52 inches. If you are coming from an AEMS Core, the Holosun AEMS Pro X2 Green is the same footprint on the rail with the solar panel and the selectable reticle added, so a transition costs you nothing in setup.
