The P30L uses a 4.45-inch cold hammer-forged polygonal barrel and a slide about half an inch longer than the standard P30, which adds sight radius and a slightly softer, more balanced recoil impulse. How the V3 Trigger Works
V3 is HK’s double-action/single-action variant with a decocking button at the rear of the pistol beside the hammer and no manual safety. The first shot is a long, heavier double-action pull; each shot after that is a short single-action pull until you decock. To decock, press the button with your thumb and the hammer lowers safely. That long first shot gives a margin of safety when holstering, but it takes deliberate practice to manage the transition from double to single action.
Grip and Controls
The P30 family was among the first pistols with interchangeable backstraps and separate side panels, so you can fine-tune the grip for small or large hands. The slide release is ambidextrous, and the magazine release is HK’s paddle-style lever at the bottom of the trigger guard, which can be worked with either hand. Shooters coming from button releases need a few hundred repetitions before the paddle becomes second nature.
FDE Finish and Accessories
The flat dark earth slide over a black frame gives a two-tone look that is popular on duty-style builds. The frame carries a Picatinny rail for a weapon light. This run is not described as optics ready, so plan on the factory sights; HK and aftermarket sight makers offer night sights for the P30 if you want tritium.

The P30L is expensive for a polymer 9mm, and the DA/SA trigger is not for everyone: shooters raised on striker guns often pull the first shot low. Avoid unjacketed lead bullets in the polygonal bore. The FDE slide is an applied finish that will show holster wear at the edges over time.
