Description
The GSG Firefly 22LR Pink Threaded pistol combines a pink frame with a black slide and black grips on the current full-size Firefly, giving you a 4.9-inch threaded barrel and a 13-round magazine in an easy-shooting 22 LR.
GSG Firefly 22LR Pink Threaded Overview
Made in Germany by German Sport Guns and imported by American Tactical as model GERG2213TFFPA, this pistol uses a double/single action hammer-fired trigger, an adjustable rear sight, an ambidextrous manual safety and a serrated slide. The muzzle is threaded 9×0.75mm and an adapter for standard 1/2×28 accessories comes with it. An accessory rail on the dust cover accepts a weapon light or laser. Unloaded weight is around 24.6 ounces, which keeps felt recoil close to nothing.
Starting Out With a 22
Many people buy a 22 as a first handgun because recoil and noise are low and ammunition is affordable, so you can practice the fundamentals often. The Firefly teaches the same skills you would use on a centerfire service pistol: grip, sight picture, a long double-action first shot and a shorter single-action follow-up. Take a basic safety class with any first pistol and practice with a qualified instructor.
Size and Fit
This is a full-size frame, so shooters with small hands should try one in person if possible. The black polymer grips give good traction, and the slide serrations make racking easier than on many compact centerfire pistols. If reach to the trigger in double action is a stretch, starting with the hammer cocked in single action and the safety on is a common training approach.
Muzzle Threads
The included adapter allows you to install a thread protector, compensator or rimfire suppressor with 1/2×28 threads. A suppressor is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state, and taller sights may be needed to see over it.
Ammunition and Care
Use high-velocity round-nose 22 LR for reliable cycling, and allow a few hundred rounds of break-in. Keep the chamber and extractor clean, and keep a spare magazine and a cleaning kit in your range bag so a stoppage does not end the session. Pink frames can show solvent stains, so wipe the exterior after cleaning.
Honest Limitations
The frame and slide are zinc alloy, chosen to keep cost down. That is adequate for 22 LR but less durable than steel, so use a snap cap for dry practice. Holster options are fewer than for mainstream centerfire pistols, and resale value is modest.
State Laws and Ownership
Threaded barrels on semi-automatic pistols, magazines over 10 rounds and non-roster handguns are restricted in some states. Confirm your state and local rules before ordering.
