Description
The GSG Firefly 22LR Black Threaded pistol is a full-size, double/single action 22 LR handgun with a 4.9-inch threaded barrel and a 13-round magazine, built to feel like a duty-size service pistol while costing far less to shoot.
GSG Firefly 22LR Black Threaded Overview
German Sport Guns makes the Firefly in Germany, and the company also produced the closely related Mosquito for SIG Sauer, so the layout will feel familiar to anyone who has handled a P226. This current all-black version (factory model GERG2213TFFA) has a 4.9-inch barrel threaded 9×0.75mm at the muzzle with a 1/2×28 adapter in the box, an adjustable rear sight, an ambidextrous manual safety, an accessory rail under the dust cover and a 13-round magazine. Weight is about 24.6 ounces, light enough for all-day range sessions yet heavy enough to stay steady.
Trigger and Controls
The first shot can be fired double action with a long, heavy pull, and follow-up shots are single action with a much shorter press. Learning that transition on an inexpensive 22 is excellent preparation for a centerfire DA/SA pistol. The slide is serrated for easy racking, which helps shooters with limited hand strength, and the magazine release sits where most American shooters expect it.
Muzzle Threads
With the included adapter, the Firefly accepts most 1/2×28 rimfire muzzle devices, and it makes a light, quiet suppressor host. A suppressor is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state, and taller sights may be needed to see over a can. Keep the thread protector installed when you are not running a device to protect the threads.
Ammunition Preferences
Use high-velocity round-nose 22 LR for the best reliability. Light target and subsonic loads may not cycle the slide fully, and the pistol often runs better after a few hundred rounds of break-in. Keep the chamber, extractor and feed ramp clean, because rimfire fouling builds quickly in blowback pistols.
Durability Notes
The frame and slide are cast from zinc alloy, which keeps cost down and is adequate for 22 LR pressures, but it is softer than steel. Avoid excessive dry fire without a snap cap, and do not use the slide stop as a slide release thousands of times a day. Replacement parts and magazines are available through the importer.
Accessories and Holsters
The accessory rail takes a compact light or laser. Holster selection is narrower than for popular centerfire pistols; some holsters made for the SIG Mosquito fit, but confirm with the maker before buying, especially with a light attached. Spare 10 and 13 round Firefly magazines are easy to find.
State Laws and Ownership
Several states restrict threaded barrels on semi-automatic pistols, limit magazine capacity to 10 rounds, or maintain handgun rosters. Check your state and local rules before you order.
